Our 2026 SEC schedule is somewhat good

Lays out good. Tough but each year evens out. Having Vandy each year helps out tremendously if they go back to former form after this year

Got a real chance to win a handful of home games next year. That’s exciting to see a schedule that doesn’t crush hope immediately

Looks to be about the most balanced schedule the SEC has ever had. I would rather not have Alabama as an annual, but this overall is about as good as they could do.

Looks good for 7 home games in 2026, 2027 & 2028. But only 6 in 2029. So, do you:
A - just play 6 home games in 2029
B - buyout home & home with Memphis & try to get Texas tech to flip the home road or replace them with another P4 tesm
C - postpone road game vs Texas Tech & schedule a home game vs a P4 with the return game later.

That’s pretty nice. 2029 is a drag but other years are decent
Who knows what the world looks like in 2029 though. Not gonna change the 5 sec away games, but could end up having home games against big names that are down. Could also be a home schedule that damn near makes a successful season impossible.

We haven't played our first conference game this season, our first true test even, and you're getting wooly about next year already? We've got 8 conference games to play before then, you're looking ahead? So you still like next year's conference schedule if we go 0-8, 2-6? Give it a rest and get ready for this Saturday, not Thanksgiving next season

I don’t believe this is in any kind of sequential order. We should still be playing Ole Miss at the end of the season.
Will be. Not should be. This is from SEC website

At least the one or two Alabama fans I know won't be upset anymore. I never heard so much upset talk from folks once they knew we were not on their permanent schedule.

At least Pavia is finally not returning. They should be breaking in a new QB. And if Mateer doesn't return, I like my chances there too. Of course, we'll be breaking in a new QB too....so it's kind of a wash with Vandy and OK. Vandy's talent level at all positions is at a level way higher than it's ever been. Clark Lea is a solid coach. I could see a blue blood maybe taking a shot at him after this season.

The bright side is that we’re undefeated against Oklahoma in football.

We should be opening at home against UL Monroe and playing at Minnesota in week 2. Scheduled to play Troy and Tennessee Tech but one of those will have to be dropped.
Troy series for 26 and 27 needs to be canceled. We need to drop a game in 26 now, and there is no reason for us to go on the road to Troy. Or renegotiate with Troy to do one game deal in Starkville for 27, which would fill that year's schedule out.

I would also cancel the Memphis series for 28 and 29, as well as the Southern Miss series for 30 and 31. The only non-conference road games we should have are the P4 requirement.

No need to cancel the Troy road game. We've already got 7 home games that year and 12 total. Do need to lose a game in 2026. I'd cancel ULM. And I'd absolutely cancel the Memphis, USM and Tulane home-and-homes scheduled from 2028-2032. Probably cancel the Washington St. series too unless we could get a waiver from the SEC since they were P-5 when we scheduled it.

Agree to disagree, but I think going to Troy does us no good in any sense. I can make the argument for Memphis, Tulane and USM (not as much), but Troy? No reason we should go to Troy.

Only reason is we already have 7 home games that year. If we replace Troy, we'd need to move one of the Memphis, Tulane or USM road games to 2027. Which come to think of it, get out of Troy series and move Memphis road game to 2027 might be the way to go. That gets us to 7 home games each year 2026-2029.

Interestingly, if you look at the FBS future schedules site which is usually pretty reliable, we are the only SEC team currently with 4 nonconference games scheduled for next year. Everyone else has their 3 figured out, it seems, with Ole Miss recently adding the home and home with Pitt.

I think ULM is unlikely to get scrapped just because then we’d be scrambling to find a week 1 opponent. I’m not sure any of the currently scheduled games would be able to be moved up to Week 1, and every other SEC team has a Week 1 opponent lined up already so a Week 1 league game is out.

I think that Troy series is probably getting scrapped. They already have Mizzou on their 2026 schedule and Miami in 2027 so they may be ok with it from that standpoint, although I’m sure they wouldn’t love losing a home game against an SEC team in two years (no idea why we agreed to that again).

I am guessing/hoping that these scheduling contracts had clauses to allow for exit with no to minimal compensation being required due to the uncertainty of SEC scheduling.

Need to keep that Wash St series if they’ll allow it to be P5. They’re not in a good place now. Could be an easy win.

I think they're accurate, and the reason they don't have the Mississippi-Pitt series up is the contract hasn't been signed yet (they don't deal in speculation). But yeah, like I said in earlier post, if we cancel the Troy series and move at Memphis from 2029 to 2027, we'll be good.

They generally do. And the SEC generally helps out with any costs to get out of contracts due to conference rescheduling.

Washington State will count as the P5 because it was scheduled when they were a P5, from my understanding. Ole Miss is playing them this year under that clause.

I think Troy will be scrapped for '26.

Maybe. Mississippi is playing them because Wake backed out on a game. The series was scheduled in Oct. 2024, after PAC-10 had fallen apart. SEC gave Mississippi a waiver (same as they did for Tennessee counting Wyoming as a P4 game when Michigan backed out on them). I think we'd need a waiver, and don't know if SEC would give it 6 years out.

More I think about it, I agree. Scrap Troy for 26 & 27 and tell Memphis we're not playing there in 29, we can either go to Memphis in 27 or we'll scrap that series too. I suspect they'll find room to play us in 27.
