Seriously ...

And yes I would rather expect 5 wins and get 5 wins, then expect 25 wins and get 20 year after year after year after year.

You are comfortable with 'expecting 5 wins a year get 5 wins' year after year ... instead of expecting 25 and only getting 20. Really?

Another thing no one has mentioned. Templeton hired Croom. Templeton did not hire Ray...for this I think he will not suck so bad. Find the hidden message.

After listening to Rick Ray speak and talking to him for a few moments

personally I would have to say I cam away impressed and I think the guy deserves all of our
support as he tries to clean up a large mess. Look where we were at the end of Jackie's run
and look at where we are now at the end of Stan's run, very similar. Mullen was pretty much
an unknown as is Rick Ray. Hopefully he is going to have similar results, we need to support him.

It will be ugly as he runs off the guys that won't follow the rules and who don't give a **** but it
has to be done and it's like making sausage, it's a little messy.

This board has really gone to hell in the last few weeks. Not much football talk, and most of it is bitching. Plus it's imploding over basketball of all things. I keep wondering WTF is wrong with so many of these people.

We're all very well aware of our game Saturday...

I didn't come away impressed the one time I heard him speak. I always came away impressed after hearing Crooms speak, so I don't really care whether he impresses me as a speaker.

I think we were actually in better position after Jackie. We had some big holes at certain positions, but we also had some good talent. Had Croom had a solid OC and been willing to turn control of the offense over to him, I think he'd still be coaching here and we'd be reasonably happy with him (assuming he didn't make buddy hires after replacing coordinators like EJ).

What building blocks was Ray left with? The flip side of that is you can see immediate, significant improvement on a basketball team with one recruiting class, where you really need a minimum two years years in football (closer to 3 if you're really screwed at OL and qb) even with good recruiting.

If Stans were still the coach, the expectation would be to make the tournament. Period. And we would probably wind up in the 18-20 win range and be on the bubble.

And if you think we are going to win 15 games this season, you really don't need to be talking basketball at all.

This is stupid. And a re-run of the Croom rhetoric.

I didn't like Stansbury in the end, but to blame him for where we are is self-serving, excuse laden, stupid rhetoric. Hell, blame George Bush while you are at it.

State basketball will never recover from the this Ray fiasco.

Not that I really give a 17 b/c its football season, but how exactly is this Rick Ray's fault and not Stansbury's? Are you suggesting we would have been better keeping Stans?

It definitely isn't on Ray...........yet. So if it doesn't lie with Stans then who is to blame?

"You kill me....your Alabama football team actually is one of the best teams in the country this year, has a chance to win the whole damn thing aGAIN, on TV....Auburn SUCKS, and you are here making fun of us talkin' bout MSU basketball"

This is a "sports" message board for The Mississippi State University. If you don't like that we are talking about MSU basketball when we have finally gotten the change than many people wanted to see, as well as many people resisted, then I have a very simple solution for you. Go back to the Bama boards to discuss your world dominance.

What part of our current situation was Rick Ray's fault? Please explain it to us...

The football game is pretty much all I can think about, but there's not a lot left to discuss about it. Everyone agrees it's a huge game. Everyone agrees what the keys to the game are. What else is there to talk about?

Thank you for wishing us good luck..... We have so many other sports that we like to talk about...... Sometimes it is hard to concentrate on just one sport..... Also, with so many unnecessary periods in my post, I think I will have to reconsider responding like this again....... I don't really know why anyone thinks it is necessary to end a complete sentence with the punctuation for 5 complete sentences.....

Ray's my way or the highway approach is the exact same as Croom's when he came in and ran a bunch of people off. It doesn't have to be a Stansbury vs Ray thing. A different coach MAY have been able to keep Gray and Hood and to sway Pollard. A different coach MAY have been able to find a different way to get Smith and Zeidakis (whatever) to buy into the program. Would a different coach have been able to do all of these things? Probably not, but perhaps he could have accomplished one or two.

it almost seems like Ray is sabotaging this season just to make sure it is painfully obvious that we are in a rebuilding mode for this year and several more years to come. Much like what Croom did when he arrived. So far, the comparisons are fair.

The only person I remember saying that was the straw man built by the Stansbury apologists.
