Our backup QB

True Freshman Wesley Carroll took the starting job. From what I've heard, he would often audible into a zone read and led us to our first bowl game since 2000: a 10-7 boatrace win against UCF.
That was the worst bowl game I've ever been too. Boring doesn't begin to describe it.

I can stomach a defensive battle, but what we saw that day was just complete and total failure on offense.

It was the quintessential Sly Croom coached game.

Based on these flexible rules of eligibility nowadays and our politicians willingness to flex their presumed executive authority in all things college athletics, maybe we can get Tate to sign an executive order that makes Omarr eligible this weekend.

You don’t have a choice. You have to concede the loss to LSU whether you start KT1 or Parker Puckett. You risk a permanent injury to KT 1 while only risking a likely loss with Puckett. OU, Vandy, Auburn are way more important games to win!

When you start writing losses off to keep your best player healthy, it’s over.
Well, I wouldn't say we are writing it off. We're not going to voluntarily roll over and take an L up the shoot. The rest of the guys who are on scholarship on an SEC team will still try very hard to win. Our defense should be okay. We could try to run JJ Hill. Hopefully the QB would be serviceable enough to keep their defense honest. There are ways we could win this game without K1 and Fluff. It won't be easy - most teams in the country would suffer if their Heisman-watchlist QB and RB1 go down.

What we CANNOT do is put Kamario at risk of getting more seriously injured. Not good for us the rest of this season, not good for K1 permanently, and not a good look for us with other incoming players. It's like knowing your ace pitcher is hurt but still sending him out there until his elbow falls off. Other pitchers might think twice about coming here.

Some would say it's a smart play to sit him, IF he's hurt as bad as people think. We will see I guess.

That was the night my hatred of UCF fans began. There weren't that many of them out after the game on Beale Street, but the ones who were seemed to be c*nts. No offense.

I honestly didn't believe Puckett was the real #2 until he came in vs Alabama.

As to the original poster's question. 6'0" and 180 lbs. Walkon not rated out of high school. Good kid and a tough guy. But he's way out of his league if he has to take meaningful snaps.
How do you know that? Serious no hack. He's been at State and beat out 2 transfers, There's gotta be something there. It's not like Croom is our coach and we have had zero QBs. Lebby does seem to have that part down. Other than his size coming out of HS ( he's most likely bigger and stronger ) What is this based on? Serious question. Respectfully, Frank

Rashada was highly recruited out of HS, which I know means nothing if he can’t run the offense, but he has to have talent. There is a universe where Billy Puckett was previously overlooked and is capable. We’ve all seen that type guy before, who may not have all the tools, but has a winning edge. Now I fully understand there are many other universes out there not as rosy.

Fernando Mendoza was a 2 star that Miami wouldn't take as a walk on and he did pretty good. None of you know anything about Puckett. And for those saying we are conceding a game, do you suggest we give K1 and couple of vicodans and just say 17 that toe ? Im not sure how bad it is injured but saying he HAS to play is the most ignorant take I have ever heard. Pretty easy to say he has to tough it out when you are sitting behind a desk playing on a computer

For every Fernando Mendoza there’s a million guys you never heard of. And yes. We’re conceding the game if Taylor doesn’t play. Now depending on the severity of the injury he might jut be able to play. But if he can play he has to play. And I think he can play & will play.

I have to agree with Hadad. No offense to the young man but the fact that a MAIS walk-on is our QB2 is a huge failure for our coaching staff.
And QB2 is far from the only position where the drop off from starter to backup is massive.

Lebby’s done an admirable job in putting together an SEC-competitive starting 22, but the lack of quality depth in year 3 is highly disappointing

Yeah, I’m trying not to kill the optimism on the board, but good lord. Our QB1’s entire body is injured, our RB1 didn’t last a series against Bama, and after nearly two weeks of rest, they’re still so banged up that we’re talking about forfeiting a key SEC game as if they’re gonna miraculously heal with a few more days. Oh, and we’ve already lost multiple defensive players for the year that we couldn’t afford to lose.

I’m afraid that the reality of this season is staring us all in the face, but many are refusing to face it

So much of Lebby's offense is accurate passing to hit the receiver in stride for YAC. Seems Rashada may have an accuracy problem. I'd be really good bringing him in on certain packages where we need to be more run heavy though. He's tall and thin, but can presumably run.

I can't help but agree. While LSU is a very winnable game, I don't wanna see KT1 risk a serious injury that could jeopardize his future. I don't like to count my dogs before they bark, but he's likely a #1 overall pick.

Puckett looks like he can zip the ball and is mobile enough to keep the chains moving. If he's able to run the system and KT1 is still dealing with injury, I say play him.

Is it written in stone that Puckett is our #2? The game was completely out of reach by the time he came in, wasn’t it? If so, it wouldn’t be crazy to bring in a lower string QB to retain the health (and possible anonymity) of your #2. Plus, the kids family is rich…. Does not hurt.
Yes, Puckett is the 2. He's been the 2 the whole time. It has a whole lot more to do with how he's practiced than how much money his daddy has.

but to be fair, it is message board and twitter accounts talking about forfeiting games based on very little leaked information. No official word from Lebby if he is planning to concede the game before kickoff.

To be clear, he wore #7.

6 is the number of ints he threw against LSU in one single game to open the 2007 season. He finished the season 1TD 9INTs.

True Freshman Wesley Carroll took the starting job. From what I've heard, he would often audible into a zone read and led us to our first bowl game since 2000: a 10-7 boatrace win against UCF.

Carroll's success meant he would be relegated to backup duty in our season opener the next season: a devestating loss at Louisiana Tech. Tyson Lee was just too good to keep on the bench. The talent development and coaching acumen of Woody McCorvey and Sylvester Croom cannot be understated, it was a special thing to witness.
The number he wore on his jersey has nothing to do with that which we rarely like to bring up...

Hopefully this break has got him healed up. I doubt it has been long enough but if it was mild its possible. We need Fluff too but if you think that team will concede the game you never played on a team. Forfeit the game ? You guys are ridiculous. Rest is the only real treatment. I doubt Billy is Fernando, but none of us know what he can do. Teams rally sometimes when they lose their leader. If K1 cant run or us his plant foot he is not very effective and won't heal but yeah, 17 it. Just keep running him out there.

My guess is it'll be better than is was vs Bama but won't be healed until after the season is over. As for what Puckett can do, his passer rating so far in limited action is 110 (with more than half his attempts vs Northeast Louisiana). The 2nd lowest passer in the SEC is 122.6 (A&M QB is 108). Maybe he is the next Mendoza, but the odds are against it. And yeah, if Taylor and Fluff can play and you sit them out you're telling your team I don't trust you to win in Tiger Stadium.

Our whole approach to this upcoming game from the media to this board has been strange.

We don’t even know what injuries Kamario has. He may very well play. Hell, Fluff may play as well.

The abandoning of the hope has been strong this week. Hopefully it pays off.

We may get our *** kicked, but we shouldn’t concede anything.

Is Puckett worse or better than Leavitt? We don't really know just based on playing time. I am not sure that if we are without Taylor, QB play will decide this game. I am totally convinced if Sam Leavitt was our starting QB we would be 1 and 4 right now.

BTW, there was an entire panel discussion on ESPN or SEC nation (can't remember which) a few weeks ago about how it is next to impossible to get a quality backup QB if the team has an established QB. They simply won't come, or they transfer out ASAP.

Leavitt is much better. As much hell as we give him (and rightly so), he's not a bad QB. He's just a lot like Manning at Texas. Lot of hype for a mediocre QB. Puckett is a true FR who hasn't taken a snap on the road. In very limited action, his passer rating vs NE Louisiana would near the bottom of the SEC QB ratings, and his rating vs Bama would be last by a very wide margin.

I just don't see it on Leavitt. He is awful. But you are right about the hype. And we would be 1-4.

Yes, there was an article about it too - I think in the Athletic. Everyone crapping on Lebby for not having a stud backup QB waiting in the wings should look around. It's something nearly everyone is dealing with. (And yes, there are exceptions like Oregon.)

It's one thing not to have a stud backup QB. It's another to have a walkon redshirt FR who no one recruited at all. Especially when you've apparently mis-evaluated your #3 and #4 QBs badly. Of course, there's still the chance Lebby is pulling an elaborate bait and switch and we see AJ Swann Saturday.

Or maybe everyone misevaluated the redshirt FR nobody recruited. Maybe he just beat the #3 and #4 out on the field. It happens.

Well hopefully Lebby has been getting him some time with the ones. And of course he is not a true freshman. 5 of 8 for 64 yards and 2 rushes for 24 is not putrid. None of us know the extent of the injury but I'm pretty sure its bad enough that he should not have been playing at Bama. Maybe this week off got him back mobile. Regardless of what Billy is we need Kamario to finish the year
