Spread out the western NCAA regionals: Nothing upset me more last season than the Long Beach regional. After each putting together impressive campaigns, somehow California, Long Beach State, San Diego and Fresno State ended up in the same regional. Long Beach State, California and San Diego each had a high RPI, while the team with the low RPI, Fresno State, actually won the regional and went on to win the national title. Though previous NCAA Selection Committee chairman Larry Templeton tried to say this past summer that the southern schools often suffer the same fate, that opinion simply is false. It really is time for the selection committee to send some California programs packing for regional play, which keeps the regionals hosted in California from being too tough. While the NCAA is at it, how about they allow more than one team from the state of Texas to advance to the College World Series?

The regionals, in my opinion, have definitely not been very evenly distributed the last couple of years, but then again, what NCAA tournament format ever really is?

They won't be as long as people are worried about ticket sales and atmosphere.
it's just the way it is. Cal State Fulerton fans won't travel to play in starkville

that Kevin Costner would be there. That would make for some prime heckling opportunities. (Waterworld)

But you're right just about everyone else in the country not named MSU, LSU, or Ole Miss has to worry about ticket sales. The thought is that the closer the teams are, the more likely fans are to travel, but the other line of thinking should be that the better the matchups, the more likely people will come. I think the problem is when you pair teams in close proximity in baseball, chances are those teams have played before, therefore it's not as interesting as it maybe looks on paper because it's not a novelty. For example, Ole Miss and USM playing in a regional.

Personally, I'd love to go to a Regional with some teams from different parts of the country- like when we had to play Washington and Ohio State.

I remember when we hosted the SR, we had more fans than the other SR's combined. That is stunning.
