He’s better than Brea. He can handle the ball, pass, and finish 2s better. I just wish he had a defensive reputation better than Brea.
Brea has really improved his mid range game here the last month. At least shown more of it off.

We could pair Eaglestaff and Dix. But honestly you take the first one who commits.
I don’t think we should be taking a lot of commitments yet from anyone unless it’s someone the staff absolutely wants. You definitely take six according to his play and metrics but there will be plenty of guys enter who are better than the other 2. I don’t wanna fill too early and have absolute studs enter later.

Possibly Braden Smith and Josh Dix with Jasper, Lewis, Oweh, Perry and who knows about Kerr… interesting. Maybe Obi too.
That would be amazing but I just don’t see it until smith enters and both recruitments wind down with us in the mix.

It won't be insane next season.
You can't be historically good every year.
Too many players leaving at once
I think it being the final year of the Covid, extra eligibility rule will make a difference. How many 5th or sixth year players are in the league? Part of that physicality is related to the teams having a bunch of grown *** men playing instead of 18 year old kids leading them. A lot of physical maturity happens over those 4-6 years.

That being said. Every time a new player is mentioned, all I see from several posters is "I'm not sold", "We need better", "He'd be ok coming off the bench". Blah, blah, blah... Dix right now is ranked the second best player in the portal per 24/7. I know it's still early and there will be a lot more guys entering as their seasons end, but Who on earth are we holding out for if the current second best player on the portal list is "Meh, he'd be a decent backup"?

I've looked at the stats and highlights. How good is he? He's a starting Big 10 guard averaging 14 points per game. You'd have to assume he intends to start next year.

Is he the guy you take his commitment today, no questions asked, realizing other good guards are going to jump in the portal in the coming weeks?

It's a catch 22, you have to take some now and some later, if you hold out hope for certain guys, unless you're certain you have a lock on some through back channel communications or whatever, then you can maybe hold out, but What if those "studs" you're hoping for don't enter, or get a better offer, and you passed on solid takes early, you're going to be screwed in the end.

One would have to think that Coach Pope through all of the back channels has a pretty good idea who he is getting and who he has a shot at getting. The speculation comes from so called “outside sources”.

With the way he put this year’s team together in just 6 weeks, I have the UTMOST confidence in who he actually brings in to play next season.

Dix can get his own shot and can score from all three levels. And his size makes that happen. What you are looking for offensively. We do need a lockdown defender out front on the roster. And with 15 schollies, wouldn't mind have two guys like that. Also two bigs that can block shots and rebound so if one gets hurt. Two of everything everywhere.

have to agree, this guy looks silky smooth when shooting
seems to be able to handle the ball well. who know about his defense, it may be better than expected
if he can just stay between his man and the rim, that is all that is needed
he would be a very nice pick up

Freeman looks like he has talent but going after D2 players scares me. Like is that who we are gonna hitch our wagon to? We need studs. Now Stirtz from Drake shows some are ready but overall.
I think the kid has three years of eligibility, so take a chance on him if he doesn’t have too high of a price tag. Even if he isn’t a star next season, he may be a decent role player and develop into a star the next two seasons.

That is true. Robert Morris and Drake have shown D2 guys can contribute in meaningful games.

I do believe Chaney Johnson from Auburn was a D2 player. He has definitely been a contributor.
