This may be old but. Am I the only one that he's not super proven to? Loved the egg bowl and liberty, but thinking back to the South Carolina game I'm kinda shaky on him against top tier defenses. I really hope he's as good as everyone says though.

Has it occurred to you that he found out his mom was going to die the same weekend of the South Carolina game. If you didn't realize this please write it down. I want to punch people who use Dak's South Carolina game against him.

I think its a great honor for him to be considered a candidate at this point, but we should all know that there are many heisman contenders before the season starts and few when its over. Dak can fall out of contention almost immediately, and still have a great season for MSU, so we as fans shouldn't get too caught up in it.

He was also a sophomore last year. We won't have many QBs starting much before that under Mullen in the future. Point being - it's going to be tough to be much more proven than Prescott at this point in his career.

Who cares - even if he doesn't get invited to New York, even finishing 2nd team all SEC would be big for us.

He still consistently moved the ball with very little difficulty in that game. We outgained them handily in that one. It was simply the big mistakes that hurt us.

Dak was 28-43 for 235 through the air, to go along with 15 carries for 78 yards and 2TDs...

He was a soph that spent the majority of offseason on crutches too. Just think if he would've been healthy preparing for last year.

Fair point on the defenses argument. He was definitely overused at some points. But do you think he will regress from the Egg Bowl and Liberty Bowl? Do you think his weapons will regress from the end of the season?

He's probably not as good as "everyone says", but he should the best that's played the position here in a long time.

Don't get me wrong he's the best I've ever seen at state. It's just hard to get bought in, since I've been burned on my excitement so many times through the years.

I seriously wonder about some of you. Sometimes just be a fan, you know say positive things about our guys. Or maybe NOT say negative things because that's all this is. Nothing positive comes from a post like this. Have a nice day.

A sophomore who didn't get to practice ANY in the spring of last year..That's one thing I think people keep overlooking when it comes to him.

12 out of the last 13 have been QBs I'd have a hard time laying money on ANY RB to win the Heisman.

Okay, then just be content with watching "the best you've ever seen." Be excited to watch him play and not on what award watchlist he's on and how many yards he gains. Dak played lights out in a lot of games last season: 1st half Auburn and LSU, 4th Qtr TAMU and TSUN, and the bowl game. Go watch them on youtube.

Dak is an important part of the team, but success will come from all parts of the team playing SEC-caliber football.

ill play devils advocate.

i think we need to stfu about all this heisman nonsense. if he is heisman quality, he will get that attention when the time comes. we just look stupid touting someone every few years. there are 130 ncaa fcs teams and most have some really good players, but heisman contenders are VERY rare.

did i say dak is not heisman material? no, but that will be determined later in the season based on his play and our team results. we still have to prove we can run the damn ball and as optimistic as we might be, its april, NOT late december. leave bumper sticker and shirt printing to the bears. think about how many they have touted in the past only to look foolish as the year progressed. if he is heisman quality, he will get consideration.

i love the optimism, but lets get real....heisman winners are THE BEST PLAYER IN THE NATION in a season. is dak our greatest player all-time? i hope so, but i have my doubts, but it could happen. time will tell. that said, i hope he is good enough to be in the conversation...i think we all do, but im not sure we are all on the same page with just how difficult it is to be a candidate and how outstanding heisman candidates have to play throughout the course of a season...let alone stay healthy in that amount of time. that is a ton of pressure to put on someone.

Actually, they're the players that put up the best stats on a top team. I don't see any way that we are good enough for Dak to be a legitimate consideration for Heisman without him performing at a level that will make him a top two or three vote getter. But who knows, maybe our defense could be dominating and he could be just good enough.

well, rg3 might be a recent exception to that. baylor went 10-3 that year (2011), so it is possible for the underdog to pull it off, but you are right in that it is an exception to the rule in most cases.

3 of the previous 7 Heisman winners played on 9-3, 10-2, and 8-4 teams...So, that line of thinking isn't necessarily true... And that isn't even discussing the guys that got invited to New York but didn't win...
