Our new QB also our new HR hitter?

It worries me he is a highly-regarded enough prospect to take part in a big-time Perfect Game showcase. Also, being a really good athlete, he will probably have a chance of getting drafted high even if he doesn't have a monster senior season.

The kid is a football player first and baseball second. If push comes to shove maybe he can sign the contract that allow him to play football in college and pro baseball in the Spring.

would be he gets an Anthony Alford deal.

Best case scenario- he plays football for us and then decides he misses baseball and patrols CF for us.

From what I understand, he wants to focus on one sport in college- and that's football. Someone will probably draft him and try to do an Anthony Alford deal though.

just maybe....our coaches will get their head out of their asses and let a player play two sports. Just maybe.... but doubt they can resist the smell....

perhaps he could do it but spring ball is one of the primary development times for SEC QBs. He would be a rare case to be able to skip that every year and fulfill anything near his potential. Would be much easier at a different position. The "Alford" type deal with pro baseball essentially is the same problem. Will be really surprised if Alford actually ends up playing QB even at USM. Its actually easier to be like a Charley Ward where you play basketball and the season is over sometime in March. At least then you get to participate in most of football spring practice. And player development is a big deal with Mullen as we know, especially at QB.

Plenty of time to work. Might not be within the allotted time but most QB's do mucho work out sessions from one season to the next. Plenty of time to play to play baseball.

Cohen and Dan would both have to be on the same page and work together to make it work.

If he redshirts, I wouldn't want him to play baseball that year. I think he needs to sit out a year in this case and learn our offense and focus on football, and after his redshirt year, if he wants to play baseball, let him come on out. Assuming he doesn't have an Alford deal.

Later in his career it may matter less- like his junior and senior year. Because he should know the offense pretty well by that point.

But none of their two sport guys are QB's.

Chad Jones was a safety who moonlighted as a relief pitcher.

They had a guy that was a punter and an outfielder- that's very doable. In fact, I've heard rumors that Devon Bell may do that at MSU and walk-on as a pitcher.

LSU also had a guy that was a WR and I'm sure some others that I can't remember.

Todd has not replied to an option....but if someone is good enough they can play both sports....baseball and football..... an honest coach will define the difference and honestly give the opinion of whether one can do both.

Tim Parenton also did it for MSU. But neither of those guys started many games in football.

the QB from Clemson like 3 years ago did it. Can't remember his name. And what was the deal with Russell Wilson? Did he do both or did he play minor league ball and then come back?

He threw for 20 TDs and hit 20 HRs in one school year....pretty impressive and was a first round draft pick in the MLB draft. Russell Wilson played minor league ball and college football. Deion Sanders did the same.

If The Mississippi State University would show 5-Star players that they CAN play two sports here, it might give us an edge against the Alabamas, LSU's, and Florida's of the world. So what if they only play at a 4-Star level in either sport?<div id="isChromeWebToolbarDiv" style="display:none"></div><div>
