below theirs. We did not hit the ball worth a **** all weekend, period! But our pitching staff is bad *** and we BEAT them. Thank goodness their Sundaystartesrs reverted to kid pitch days and gave us 4 runs!

one for the team... or a hitter who is patient and draws a walk?

I'm glad you're not our coach.

Who gives a **** how you get on base. Just get there.

explained the difference between batting average and on base percentage to you? Do you not comprehend that on base percentage is just that, what percentage of the time you geton base no matter the manner?Your statement suggests that baserunners, except hits should not be considered. You should stick with batting average discussions as you clearly do not understand on base percentage.

Exactly. HBP is the easiest way to get on base. I used to love aggressive pitchers that tried to control the inside corner of the plate.

but we just don't have the bats to to that. So the approach of taking a walk or standing in there for the HBP worked. Is it going to win us a CWS? Doubt it, but we needed a series win and got it. Like others are saying we had some damn fine pitching and defense yesterday and that too is part of the game. The robbed HR turned out to be huge.

is why anyone would ever throw us anything out of the zone.

they didn't have so many hits. UM's batting average all season has been very deceptive. They get a lot of hits, but can't score runs (I guess that makes those plastic hits). It's not like this problem just cropped up this weekend for them. You can ***** about our offense all you want, I'll agree with you. But theirs isn't any better and hasn't been all season long, despite the difference in the batting averages.

I honestly can't believe you typed that.

Albert Pujols slugging percentage would suck the last few years without the homeruns, triples, and doubles. Kevin Durant's scoring average would be low if it weren't for all of those baskets he made. Tom Brady's completion percentage would be worse than Tebow's if you take away all of Brady's completed passes.

have a much higher percentage of reliance on the other team than the examples you gave did.

If anyone would wise up and pound the zone, we'd really have trouble scoring.

we crowd the plate and won't give in. Pitchers can't back us off the plate. It's a mind game that we win with walks and HBPs. We have quite a bit to do with what's happening.

I agree with everything you just said. However, OBP was invented BECAUSE things like walks and hit batters didn't show up in the normal batting average. It is a measure of getting on base. So for some idiot to say that our OBP wouldn't be as good if you took out walks and hit batters is stupid.

It's like saying that the New Orleans Saints' offense didn't score very much if you took out the touchdowns and field goals.

In my original post was I'm happy we won 2 of 3 from the Bears and our pitching is bad ***. We did however only get 2 hits for those 4 runs. There is nothing wrong w taking advantage of ****** pitching that gave us 4 unearned runs without swinging the bat. I wish every game that happened but to say we outplayed them at the plate is a bit of a stretch. We outplayed them as a team the entire weekend except for the 2 innings on Saturday when we committed the errors. We are playing solid D, getting great starting pitching, getting relief pitching we need, and as of late getting enough run support to make that pitching hold up. Huge weekend at Bama coming up. We need to keep this up and win this series too before UF and UK. Gotta have this weekend!

pounding the zone is the real trick, and these pitchers on other teams are young a lot of times, or just not very good.

I actually think the way to beat us is to throw out of the zone and make us chase. Look at what we did to Micheal Roth who pounded the zone- we got six runs off of him. And yet, South Alabama throws a guy who has an ERA of 8+ and he shuts us down for 8 innings. It's because we swing at anything people throw up there- you throw a strike to Renfroe or Rea- they might connect on it pretty good.

Also explains how we got some hits off of Wahl and knocked him out by the fifth inning and yet against their struggling bullpen we strike out 16 times in Pearl and scratch out two hits on Sunday against them.
