They say if MSU gets 7-2, do NOT put it past them to win the last 3. tHATS 10-2!DAMN! Thats a station in ALABAMA! Anyone got any shears?

Stations out of the know like this wrote us off when we didn't deserve it and are now hyping us beyond what we deserve. Pay no attention to them.

The current OM party line is "Let him keep on winning and he will bolt."

I have heard this probably 50 times from all my OM in-laws and co-workers. Do these guys send out a news letter or email with the current party line in it or something??? First of all, we aren't "letting" Mullen win anything... We are just along for the ride. Second, I personally think Mullen does 5 and out, at which point we will be in MUCH better shape than when he came and I will in turn wish him nothing but the best.

I'm not George W. Bush, so I can't look in his eyes and know his soul, but Mullen just doesn't seem like somebody on an ego trip looking for his next gig. There is no doubt we need to get him to at least Croom's pay level at season's end. What was that, $2million? Beyond that, how much is somebody going to throw at him? Does he leave for 2.5 or 3 to a program that will need rebuilding? If he's a good coach and a savvy recruiter, he can win just as easy here as anywhere else. He's in a position where most seasons he can go 7-1 in conference play and essentially be in a 2-game playoff for the NC. Where else can you say that? (yes, I have MSU coach and NC in the same sentence--I have the AC set on 65 to combat the wool)

I think we are a lot more likely to lose assistants, maybe not this year, but next. Diaz needs a raise.

it will be about whether or not Mullen wants to go to a top 10 program and take on the pressure and job INsecurity that comes with the advantages those programs have. It's that simple.

We can pay him 3 million or so...money wont be the issue

Quick Fix - usually lower priced offer from a program that wants immediate help.

Proven Program Builder - high dollar offer from a program that wants to build something big.

From what I have seen of Dan, if he left it would be for the second. If he stayed at MSU 4-6 years and built a proven winning program, then one of the big boys might make him an offer he can't refuse. The Quick Fix offer would probably not be appealing to him.

There are alway wild card situations out there but I can't see a big program taking a high dollar chance on a guy who has one season of success. Make that 4-6 years of success and it is a different story.

...Mullen is a young guy who fits Miss. State perfectly (and vis-versa).

If Mullen possesses the typical ego of a college football coach, he wants to prove he can take Miss. State from the basement to winning championships.

I don't know how into riches & fame Dan Mullen is, but he strikes me as the type who is the antithesis of a Tommy Tubberville narcissist.

Speaking of Tommy Tubberville...of course the Bears think Mullen will bolt as soon as he turns MSU into an 8 win program. That's what Pinebox Tommy did to them, so they think all college football coaches are that much of an egomaniacal butthole.

Having said all that, if Mullen does bolt at this end of this season, either dawgstudent, OMlawdog, olemissbydamn or some other stalker will re-post this.

not sure we would or could pay 3 million. Hopefully his wife loves Starkville enough to keep the family intact for several years. The good thing about Mullen and staff is he has some really good potential HC candiates that are young who will either move up or get a HC job somewhere, which is close to being a first.

But when the time comes, I'd keep this in mind.

1. There are only about30 schools in the country that could match or exceed what we could pay. Out of those, probably abouthalf would be lateral moves inpay, difficulty inrecruiting, and level of competition or a combination of the three. Does he have a favorite?
2a. Of the 15 remaining schools, how many will have a job opening? What are the expectations at those schools. Let's be honest here- If Mullen can consistently take us to bowls and have 7 win seasons most of us will be satisfied for a while. We're a patient fanbase compared to many and haven't been spoiled to think nothing less then 10 wins is good enough. Will job security matter?
2b- On that note- If he's making 2.5-3 mil here is it worth the extra .5-1 mil. to put up with the pressure and stress? At what point does quality of life and health kick in? Look no farther then his mentor to see what that much stress will do to you.
3. He's been here 2 years now-if he left he might get lumped in withalways looking for greener pasture crowd. If he keeps doing well, he get more shots.
4. Ego- 2 ways to think here. He could go to a "Big Time" program and be another chapter in their accomplishments/ championships. On he flip side he can stay and be the main subjectat State.

Regardless we're in a much better position if/ when he leaves.

don't forget... he has to get us there first... and by that time maybe our spark will have turned into a flame that will make it easier for us to replace him with another quality guy

The way this season has played out so far he might see some opportunities after this season to bolt and it would be hard to blame him. If he leaves us with a winning record and a bowl game then he has either met or exceeded everyone's expectations from him. I would be upset if he left but like others have mentioned we have some assistants underneath that could be promoted. It's not a do or die situation for us unless Mullen leaves and everyone follows him. I don't want Mullen to bolt but that is my .02 cent.

The way recruiting and our record is shaping up I hope he is around at least one more year
