Ok, I was a little bored on Saturday afternoon so I was running through our recruiting info and I thought it would be interesting to see ratings based solely on other scholarship offers. I kept it pretty simple...

** : No other BCS offers
*** : 1-3 BCS offers
**** : 4-5 BCS offers
***** : More than 5 BCS offers

Based on that, a little more than half our class remained exactly where they were rated on Scout. These were the movers, though...

Underrated: Siddoway, Washington, James, Redmond, Grindle
Overrated: Senior, Barnes, D Bell, Carter, T Bell, Adams, Jiles, Desper

For those of you who have actually seen some of these guys play, what are your thoughts on the over/underrated ones? A few that I thought were interesting were Desper, James, and Grindle. Desper seemed to have interest from a lot of big name schools, but no offers other than ours. James had offers from pretty much everyone in the SEC but is still just a 4*. Grindle had offers from LSU, Auburn, and Ark so the 3* rating from Scout seems surprising also.

you aint gonna get much love from the recruiting sites. The same stigma that keeps us from getting recruiting titles, helps us keep players that fly under the radar. I hate to sound like a tin hat guy, but perception plays a huge role in the rankings. Just calling it as I see it. Desper and Antione are 2 that come to mind.<div>
</div><div>Its a cycle. People on staffs look at these pages and they do have an influence. As soon as a guy gets a little buzz, then he picks up another offer, then BAM, his rating is bumped. And its not like the kid has gotten any better.</div><div>
</div><div>As for your overrated list, I don't think any of those guys are expected to be starters anytime soon. So calling them overrated is a bit hasty.</div>

dude looks awesome and plays in the UA AA game. However, because he committed early and hasn't been open to other schools the recruiting sites just keep him unfairly pushed down the rankings. He deserved to have been in the CL top 10 recruits in MS.

sometimes their offer lists are not very accurate.

You've got guys on there that say that they have offers from places when they really don't and sometimes people like Rosebowl get lazy and don't update them.

Desper would have had more offers if he hadn't committed early. I know Ole Miss talked to him some during the season. I've seen Giles a couple of times, and he is infamous for shutting down Tobias Singleton but MC throws the ball so little, I couldn't really tell too much. He plays RB for Clinton to, so he usually plays on both sides of the ball. Cole Carter is really athletic for someone his size. He plays some TE for Caledonia. He'll have to bulk up a little bit, but that shouldn't be a problem. Adarius Barnes is one of the fastest players in the state. We'll find a position for him.

Devon Bell is a need for us- a KO specialist, and he's also someone that could possibly fill in other roles on special teams as well. If he can be a place-kicker, punter, KO speciailst and do all three pretty well, he's well worth the scholarship. We have some pretty good walk-ons that are coming in as well that will compete with him at kicker and punter. Kickers are a little tooky- I think that's why most schools make several of them walk-on and the ones that are the best earn scholarships. But if Bell is as good as advertised, he could be quite a weapon if he can make the other team start at the 20 every time.

I don't know exactly how a "school of interest" lands on a kid's page, but he apparently turned a lot of heads while not getting another offer.

As far as the overrated list, I only meant from the standpoint that their Scout rating didn't seem to quite line up with their list of scholarship offers.

I don't think there has ever been a question about where he wanted to play. Hence other teams didn't waste their time even trying. Therefore not a lot of interest. Doesn't really matter, he's probably the #1 OL in the state and he's signing with us.
