Your favorite late night food place. So let's relate it to State.

It was hard to top Starkville Cafe and it's 2 hour wait for breakfast when it was open 24 hours. And before Krystal closed, that was the place.

Krystal was the place to be. And the Starkville Cafe was definitely my choice, once they went 24 hours (or 23 - I remember them having to close for an hour for health code or something).

That stays open as late as the one in Starkville. I have a ton of respect for those people. They will deliver you a pizza in any kind of weather and usually give you a ride home with it. For that, PJ's gets my vote.

the House of Bar-B-Que (a.k.a. The House of Death) on Hwy 82 near downtown was the late night munchies place of choice. I think that place is a cleaners now.

The best thing about Papa John's in Starkville is that you can basically make up a deal, say you have a coupon for it, and then when you go get it, say you forgot the coupon. I had many a good meal on the "Buy one 2-liter Coke, get2 medium one-topping pizzas for $4.99" deal.

I think it was called Woody's or something. Loved the potato logs and tenders. Awesome drunk food.

I recall one of those times the alarm was triggered (I lived there in 97/98).It had tobe about3am. Everybody was outside waiting to go back in, and a Papa John's car drove by making a delivery. I was impressed.

1. Krystal - whether it was in HS in Jackson, college in S'ville, and last August in the Quarter, Krystal can never be replaced as the best drunk food

2. Waffle House- smothered, covered, and chunked please (been in a couple of good fights in there too)

3. Papa John's right outside of Cheers- I always took something home from Cheers- if it was some ho, it was a medium pizza

Honorable mention- The Alibi right off Bourbon (eating with the strippers at 3am when I lived down there always made for a fun time)

I remeber the last time I went to Krystal in Starkville. It was SBW in 96. The cops were walking the drive-thru checking cars. Nothing like a good buzz kill to go with your gut bombs.</p>

I've always thought that a bar should reopen the kitchen after closing at 12 or 1 for a little while..

I know it'd be quite an undertaking, but I gotta think you could really make some money that way.

After a successful death-cheating drive back into town from The Mayhew Landing, Doug's, or (on some long nights) Mack's Supper Club, nothing could beat either House of Death or Allgood's (aka Allbad's), which was on the hill across from that new bar, Rick's.

*I forgot, an honorable mention should go to B-Quick potato logs. If you were quick enough to reach around the back into the open glass and snatch one of those while waiting in line, you were the man.

This.

Back in those days, late night eating choices were practically limited to gas stations and grocery stores. Heck, sometimes we drove to Columbus for Huddle House.

After getting off a bar shift at the Mugshits we would go there and ask them how many pizzas hadn't been picked up, I've never seen so much pizza for 25 bucks.

have to admit a weavy drive or two to the Krystals in that 1998-2002 time range. Just always avoid that road by SA.

I don't recommend ever getting in a fight when you are out numbered 15 to 1. But the Vanilla Gorilla managed to hold his own.
