Alabama ran away with the No. 1 spot in the “Oversigning Index” by CBSSports.com.

No other team is even close to Alabama, which projects to have 95 players on scholarship for the 2013 season.

The runner-up is Washington at 91, followed by Virginia at 90 and (surprisingly) Vanderbilt at 89.

Per NCAA rules, a college team can only have 85 players on scholarship before the start of the season.

Yes, schools that are over the magic number are going to have to figure out a way to lose some infantry by the summer, either by encouraging players to transfer to other schools, to graduate early, to get approved for a medical redshirt, among other ways – including possibly asking a current signee to take a grayshirt.

The “Oversigning Index” was created by CBSSports.com’s blogger Matt Hinton, and is a 2013 scholarship estimate for major conference teams. It’s unofficial estimates based on available rosters as of Feb. 19.

Hinton thoroughly examines Alabama’s situation and you can read it HERE.

Alabama signed a total of 101 recruits for 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The Crimson Tide has 70 scheduled to return for the 2013 season. They signed 25 recruits earlier this month.

Maybe they expect 6 more current players to get arrested.
