The NCAA needs to standardize the ball used. There is a difference between different brands. That could explain why teams sometimes struggle shooting on the road.
Interesting point. Do they identify the brand of ball being used in the details for the betting lines ?? Are inflation levels a factor ??

Talking about a poor game is fine, but saying he’s terrible and he just got paid and quit or he’s trying NBA stuff is ridiculous. He’s been nothing but a high character guy who played his *** off for us.
I agree that the comments that he is terrible or quit are ridiculous. He is clearly trying. But to say the NBA criticism is not impacting him is also off base.

His goal is the NBA. He tried to get drafted. All of which almost every player at UK wants to pursue. No issues. He got the feedback that his shot is not good enough nor are his handles. Yet last night Oweh was tied for 2nd in 3 point attempts-not his game-and led the team in turnovers. That is not where he helps UK.

If he is going to try to prove the scouts wrong he needs to be successful and his shooting form makes it unlikely to be an NBA level shooter. If he cannot, he needs to play the way he best helps UK or unfortunately cut his minutes.

UK will not be as successful as possible if Oweh doesn’t build off last year and UK will not be successful if Oweh is 2nd in 3 pt attempts and is handling the ball to the point he turns it over 5 times a game.

Lets chalk it up to pressing and not a pattern but we as fans just came thru a period with a coach that turned too many seasons into NBA auditions for players at the teams expense—so the apprehension is understandable.

It won’t be long until we see Oweh re-assert himself. People going overboard throwing Oweh and Lowe out for a bad game. Both dudes still working their way back from injury
I swear, nobody has any patience and every game is win or dead now. One thing Pope’s teams have shown is that they respond to losses and never give up. Even last night they could have been beat by 25 instead made it a game with 3:40 to go. That in and of itself is a great trait that when not playing your best, you still have a shot.

Meh. Injuries didn't cause all the Oweh turnovers and he needs to quit with all the 3 pointers. Quit being selfish and play the team game. Being preseason SEC POY might have gone to his head..

The glass half full would point out that Oweh is nowhere near 100% and we were still right there. Also, our defensive strategy was awful in the first half. We still had enough firepower and resilience to get within four. I still fully believe we aren’t losing very many games this year. The arguments about us not being improved blow my mind.

I think he is forcing too many threes, but we can’t say *why* he’s doing that. It could be he still isn’t comfortable going aggressively to the bucket because of turf toe. Either way, the competitor he is, I bet you that won’t last.

Also, I want to point out that Oweh was frequently playing too far off his man and ball watching. That was a major flaw he had last year that I still hope to see him improve on. If you notice, Louisville was picking on Oweh quite a bit. They were having Oweh’s man constantly reposition and when Oweh would try to recover and attempt a steal, he’d be out of position and give up jumpers or cuts. That has to stop.

I don't get the impression he really wanted to come back to college.
I agree that he doesn't seem stoked to be back and chasing a banner. I think he's sulking about getting passed over in the draft. If that is the case Pope needs to get him back in line.

Which entitles you to what exactly?? I’m eager to hear your answer. I won’t hold my breath. You really have NOTHING to say.

Those that think turf toe is no big deal need some personal experience. Without surgery it can bite your *** for over a year.

By all means continue to eviserate one of the few that can get into the lane. Nothing like bashing and eating your own.

he has what is very commonly a long-lingering injury and was in a walking boot like a month or so ago. it's not being discussed enough that he will probably be playing hurt the whole year. thats our luck.
That was my thought. He is not playing like he did last year. Has to be lingering effects of the injury. We need him to play like he can.

Problem is (sans JQ) they got all role players and even if JQ is a star he's a big, need a star with the ball in his hands and that may have to be an elite Highschool recruit mixed with the role players.
I think you hit the nail on the head. We banked on Oweh becoming an elite player and so far, he's regressed. Pope is smart, he'll learn. You gotta have one bonafide stud and we don't.

All the preseason hype is baffling. Oweh is not a superstar. Not even close. He's not an SEC POY candidate either. He is a good/very good college level player, nothing more. He is good at driving, putbacks and defense. That's about it. His jumper is very flawed and he never passes the ball.

I really like the guy. Just calling it like I see it.

A classic example of players are what they are.

Oweh is in his fourth year. He always had turnover issues. He tends to do too much at times and gets out of control.

He's taking on a greater role in this offense as compared to last year. And not surprisingly, his offensive efficiency is going down because of it.

The guy is a very good basketball player and in spurts can score in bunches. But relying on him to be the "go to" player on this team I don't believe is going to work. It has to be someone else. I'm not sure who that someone is unfornuately.

I think it also illustrates something.........having balance is a good thing. Having multiple options is good. But when you absolutely need a bucket, to have that player you could go to is also massive.

We played UL, we trailed by 18 twice. Both times when things got a bit dicey for UL, they had someone to go to. We really had no answers for Brown. That was the difference. One team has a go to guy, the other team did not. Heck just look at the possessions we had when we got it to 88-84. Huge comeback and the remaining possessions was just awful. UL even opened the door a bit by missing all those free throws at the end and not once did we capitalize.

Oweh is a good ballplayer, he's going to have his moments and he is going to have his games, think Oklahoma last year, but he's going to have us shaking our heads too. He can't carry the team but he can be a valuable member.

It's early, they still have to figure out who they are

Yeah sure that's the fans fault. If a player plays poorly people will talk about it. -16 has no excuse.
No, it's not the fans fault but some of y'all are screwed up bitches and look for stuff to complain about. This was one game and you guys have already dismissed the team and the players for the most part. That's pathetic as ****.

He still had 12 points even “hurt” yeah he didn’t play spectacular but the way everyone turns on a player around here is insane. I can imagine why guys don’t wanna return.
I’m not turning on him by mentioning 1of 6 from the 3. That isn’t his game and if he’s doing it for the NBA that’s the wrong attitude. It’s clear to anyone watching last year and this year he isn’t playing the same.

I have never been Oweh's biggest fan. He's a very good slasher type scorer, good on the fast break, etc, but he's pretty one dimensional. I don't have much faith in his three point shot, and he definitely isn't a playmaker. We have guys with higher upside than him at the guard/wing position. If he thinks he's going to be a volume scorer on this team, he's in for a rude awakening. If he wants to concentrate on what he does best, he can help us. I'm skeptical.
