The goal for Moline all year was to reach the championship game of class 4A and they were not going to be denied finishing off Downers Grove North 50-32 in a game that Moline was allowed to dictate the tempo of the game instead of DGN. Credit Downers Grove for playing outstanding defense, not allowing Moline to get easy baskets off Molines keep away offense in the 4th quarter, but Downers Grove had to foul and Moline made almost all their 4th quarter free throws to end any hope of DGN making a comeback, Moline ended the game making 29 of 33 at the line for the game.
Brock Harding had one of those starts that all high school players dream about. He nailed his first 3 pointer and added 2 more, plus a 2 and was fouled on another 3, made those 3 free throws for 14 of Moline's first 17 points and Moline never allowed to get any closer then 3 the rest of the game.
After 1, Moline led 17-11, half time score was Moline 28-22, after 3 it was Moline up 32-27, it was defiantly a defensive game from the start. DGN shot over 30 threes and made 5 or 6 of them and that was the difference.
Brock ended up with 21 points, 6 rebounds, but failed to get an assist in this game, Owen Freeman ended up with 9 points 7 of 9 from the line and had a gigantic steal and run out for a dunk in the 3 quarter that gave Moline a 5 point lead when it looked like DGN was making a run and added 8 rebounds, 4blocks and altered numerous DGN shots that kept them from changing the complexion of the game.
The 2nd rated Moline team will now meet Lisle Benet Academy team that has been rated number 1 for most of the season, it should be a classic. 7:15pm on CW television.
