Had offers from MSU, USM, and UM. 3* on Rivals.com and #15 on Rivals.com preseason Mississippi top 25. Croom took one right out of the Rebels back yard. Bama has been coming at this kid hard the past couple of weeks.

That surprises me because, well, he's from Oxford. Not that we haven't gotten anyone from there in the past, like Pegues, but still.

I'd like to get their TE as well.

Emmanuel McCray from Forest Hill switches his commitment from UM to MSU. He's a 3* offensive tackle from Jackson. He and Gabriel Jackson from Liberty, MS are the top 2 OT in the state this year.

Edited to say: you know we are doing well in recruiting when the Spirit board is complaining about us having a barbeque picnic on an unofficial visit for these players. Nevermind that we had over 1,000 players on campus and 4 of them committed. Picnic$ and Barbeque$ as they would say.

"Their QB (</a><a href="http://mississippi.scout.com/a.z?s=177&p=8&c=1&nid=3598529"><font color="#000066">Montez Phillips</font>) is a difference maker," added South Panola head coach, Lance Pogue. "There is no question they will be the team to beat in (Class) 4A. My belief is there is not a better team in 4A, unless they are hiding somewhere. Their QB can win it on his own. He can single handily keep them going. But they have a tough front seven on defense. That number 75 (DT) is a load, and they have good skilled players. But their QB can make it happen with his arms and legs. There are not many in the state in his class."

I haven't kept track, but I'd guess that we don't land at least half of the guys from Oxford and Lafayette.

If you grow up in a small town, in many cases you don't want to continue to stay in the same town for your college experience. Most people go away for school if possible, so I'd say that him being from Oxford may have actually made it more difficult for us.

Off the top of my head, Matt Malouf went to Memphis, that kid from Lafayette a year or two ago went to Alabama. Frink from Oxford went to Stanford. Jamison Hughes came to Ole Miss, but he wasn't a native Oxford kid. He was a coach's son and followed his dad.

Again, someone else would likely have a better list, but I really don't think that a kid being from Oxford is an advantage for us.

For someone that doesn't follow recruiting, you sure seem to know and comment an awful lot about... recruiting.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do still follow recruiting a little bit, mainly to keep up with who we are recruiting and what people are saying about our recruits. What I don't get into is all the ranking BS, and I don't make judgments about players based off what someone said about them in high school or how many offers they have, etc. All I really care about is if they show up and how they perform if they do make it to campus.

To answer the other poster on Malouf, yes he did transfer to Samford. Since they are D-1AA, I believe he gets to play immediately, which means there is a chance he could be starting against us this year when Samford comes to town.

From a UT board: '<font size="2">He [Croom] is taking Ole Miss to the shed in recruiting MS talent.'

</font>From an Auburn board: '<font size="2">Looks like ol' Croom is getting the hang of recruitin.'</font>

From a LSU board: '<font size="2">Last years results gave Croom and MSU lots of hype, and therefore gave good reason for some of these big time Mississippi boys to stay at home, instead of going way off around the SEC.'

</font>From a UF board: '<font size="2">Croom is dominating Ole Miss in recruiting. MSU will be a force to be reckoned with.</font>'

And, finally, from a Bama Board: <font size="2">'Phillips is a nice little 3* WR. I'm sure Auburn would kill to have him. Gotta hand it to him, Croom is doing quite well in MS. He already got a commit from DE Fletcher Cox, that we wanted. But I will NEVER fear a Croom coached team. JPW was the ONLY reason Bama lost over there last year and Bama will only get better from there.'</font>

to give out the back handed compliments. "I will never fear a Croom coached team". That should be on a sign as they walk out of the tunnel onto Bryant Denny Stadium every week.

if crooms is smart, he'll try montez at qb first, and adjust the offense to include alot more of that last drive in the liberty bowl. Misssissippi is full of athletes that run systems in hs where there isn't alot of thinking invlolved (unlike the wco), and would thrive in those same type offenses in college. in all of crooms offenses, our players seem to be thinking to much instead of playing full spead all the time, like they're scared of making the wrong choice..........with all that said, i do hope he finally changes to get the full benifit of all the talent this state produces

it still continues to baffle me (and many others) that he remains so stubbornly stuck on his ideas of offense based out of his NFL experience. Just doesn't seem he will willingly adapt to the talent base around him which unfortunately does not include a lot of "in the pocket, make a lot of reads" type QBs. With all the athlete types available, something more along the spread type offense appears to be tailor made for the MS talent base, but Croom doesn't even want to consider it even after 4 years of very ineffective offenses. I don't know if its a stubborn pride type thing or if the WCO (or whatever you want to call what we run) is the only offense Croom knows or feels comfortable directing.</p>

bordering on "well, we didn't want him anyway" talk. Typical....

</p>

Not quite. The original poster was acting like it was somewhat of a shock or surprise that a kid from Oxford wouldn't go to Ole Miss. I was simply pointing out that recent history shows that most kids from Oxford tend to want to leave Oxford for college. There isn't that strong of a tie between Oxford athletes and Ole Miss. Some do come to Ole Miss, but I'd venture to say that at least half when you're talking athletes, take the opportunity and go somewhere else to get a new experience.

From what I understand, we did want this guy. I'm just not surprised that we're not getting him.

You using facts to support your argument is irrelevant; you're an Ole Miss fan and therefore must be replied to with the word "typical."
