So far the PAC 10 has beaten
Texas
Tennessee
Houston
Iowa
Also,Arizona State, which is likely the 7th best team went to Madison and lost by 1 point. If you took the 7th best team from the SEC (weighting it in favor of the SEC because of 12 teams - I took the bottom 2 Vandy and OM out) the pecking order in the SECwould probably be Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, South Carolina, then maybe a tossup between us, Georgia , or Tennessee. None of those 3 teams would lose by 1 point to Wisconsin. Also, UCLA is likely the 5th or 6th best team in the PAC 10. They beat Texas by 22 points. South Carolina wouldn't beat Texas. Oregon beat Tennesse by 35 points. And the PAC 10 doesn't have a team so weak that they would lose to a Division II school. The worst team in the PAC 10 is Washington State, and won their game against a Div II team.
I'm not saying that the SEC isn't better. I'm just not saying that it's as obvious as you guys are saying. And quite frankly, I don't know outside of Penn State and West Virginia what teams the SEC has gone out of conference and beaten that would really impress me. And those 2 aren't as impressive as say Texas and Iowa, both of which were in the top 10 when they played the game. Now, there's no argument that the SEC doesn't have the best team. Alabama is really good. But, just because a conference has the best team doesn't mean it's the best conference. Because that would mean the Big East would have had the best conference in 2000, and I don't think anybody is trying to make that argument.
So, what argument can really be made for the SEC at this point, besides presuming that games would be won or that they have the best team? I'm a fan of the SEC, but I also don't look at it with SEC colored glasses with a thought process like "The SEC is the best conference just because it is."
