but one has to wonder if it is because they immediately become a top 3 Pac-10 program should they join?

Very little basketball impact, although they did make the NCAAT in 2008. I don't think they field field a baseball team.

I don't know what the Pac-10's intent is, but I would assume they would require more than just a program with only a solid football reputation.

Utah makes sense, but I could see some politicians, etc, not letting Utah leave without BYU.... Kind of like when Texas and Texas A&M were rumored to be coming into the SEC in the early 90s.

each would be a major university in it's own state. I'd think Boise is more attractive than Idaho, or any of the Nevada schools. Colorado is too far away, but I think they "fit" the PAC-10 North mold. Utah or BYU, or both, would probably be automatic and a no brainer. I wouldn't take Wyoming or New Mexico. Wonder how big San Diego State is? They've had decent success, as has Fresno State - hell they've got a National Title in baseball. But I bet the California politicians don't want to prop those schools up over the current big boys, just like we don't want to prop up Southern.

Tough choices.

The great-great-great grandson of Brigham Young himself played quite a few football games on Sundays in the NFL.

But sure.. 100 year old religious reasoning could be classified as dumb if you like.
It is just a large cult anyways. (LDS that is)

and add TCU and/or SMU. Not sure that Ark would take a pay cut to join. Iowa State would make more sense than Mizzou but who wants the Cyclones?

You've got Rice, SMU, Houston and New Mexico that would be candidate. I only add New Mexico because they are the major university with the most support in that state. I highly doubt UTEP, Tulsa, North Texasor TCU would get that chance. Colorado State maybe. Also, Utah or BYU could be a decent candidate for Big 12 if not picked up by the Pac 10.

The Big 10 is going to go east and take either Pitt, Rutgers or Syracuse.

especially just to add a small market school. I've thought for at least a decade that the PAC-10 needed to add Utah and Colorado (or Colorado St. if they couldn't get Colorado). It just makes too much sense not to.

No more or less so than the fantastical stories of other religions and theirfollowings.
...had to get that in.

Utah would be interesting, they are certainly usually good enough in the 2 big sports to compete.
If you exclude BYU and Colorado, there really arent many schools that fit everything the Pac10 is currently. Having football, basketball, and baseball should be required, id think. And volleyball.
But being competitive or not? Hardly a requirement. See Washington football this decade, Oregon State basketball,USC basketball forever up until the last half decade, etc.

UNLV?

It's about wouldn't it have been fun to watch June Jones go up against PAC-10 defenses back in the day? And also BYU has a NC, and a lot of history, although Utah seems to be catching up with them. USC/BYU is stuck up bowl? That's must see TV. And we all remember the BYU/Hawaii game when BYU was attempting to go undefeated. Lots of bad blood there.

I'm obviously basing this more on what football game I want to see.

If Utah and Colorado join, then the Big 12 has to find another team. Arkansas anyone? If they move, where do we turn? An ACC school like Clemson or Tech? Maybe Louisville? The who fills their shoes? One thing about it, some of the midlevel conferences like the MWC and CUSA are probably going to take a hit when all of this starts going down.

The population of Colorado is 5 million. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why Colorado will get the invite and Boise St. won't.</p>

The Salt Lake TV station speculated that BYU might replace Colorado in the Big 12, and that's probably about as good as they'd be able to do.

could have a bitter rivalry filled with hatred since they are about 10 miles apart. Or that's what ESPN tells me when they are pimping Duke/UNC basketball. AND THEY'RE ONLY EIGHT MILES APART!

I have always thought that watching or playing sports on the "day of rest" are a perfect match. To me, watching a basketball game on Sunday's is resting. Morman's play by the rules but don't really understand them.

then I'd like to go after GA Tech or Miami for the size of their markets. Both are also great academic schools.

when I hope and pray that Arkansas leaves the SEC. As long as we don't invite West Virginia into the SEC, the collective IQ of the entire conference will increase ten fold.

I'd enjoy seeing Arkansas go to the Big 12, slide Vandy from the East to the West and have GA Tech placed in the East.

Not that this would ever happen...

The only reason they're in it is the same reasonMSU, UMand Vandy are in the SEC.

Later, Razorbacks. No more Fayettenam/Little Rock would be awesome. And I think we should go after GA Tech. See if an original SEC Charter Member would like to return to the fold. If they don't want to come back, I'd love to bring in Clemson. The question then becomes who moves to the West. Vandy probably makes the most geographical sense, but the East needs their cupcake and I think Slive & Co. would be reluctant to move them for that reason. Interesting to discuss, though.
