but damn that would be nice if they did. I would love to see Arkansas head to the Big 12 and Clemson take their place. Georgia Tech had their chance to be in the SEC, and they chose to leave. Clemson strikes me as a much better fit, but I'm not sure a school that underachieves in the ACC wants to be in the same division as Florida, Georgia, and TN.

I wonder if FSU wouldn't be interested in leaving the ACC. As weak as the ACC has been lately I could see them possibly considering joining the SEC. Like someone said earlier, the MWC and C-USA are about to take a huge hit. If Southern doesn't get into the Big East, ( and they won't) it could be the nail in the coffin for them. They are already broke as it is.

These days, conference expansion is all about expanding into new markets or making the conference the most marketable for TV contracts.

When State, Ole Miss, Washington State, and Oregon State joined their current conferences, I don't believe we even had television. These days, it's all about the money, and the money comes from the TV contract.

They don't care if you even field any other teams outside of football and basketball because those are the revenue sports, and those are the sports where the TV contracts come into play. If you can offer a major TV market or a large alumni base, that is the biggest plus you can have. A great football program is 2nd. A great basketball program is 3rd, and it's probably a distant 3rd.

how would the SEC divisions be configured? Just curious as to what people think.

I know this is all speculation and just fun at this point. Whenever someone mentions ARK leaving for the Big 12, it is usually suggested that the new school is somewhere on the east coast (Clemson, Miami, GA Tech, etc.). So, if that were the case, how would the divisions be re-done. I guess Tech could fit in the SEC West (sort of), but if it were a school even more east, how would it reconfigure the conf?

But it makes more sense to have Auburn in the same division as Bama and Vandy in the same division as UT. Nashville's only about 30 miles west of Auburn (and about 250 miles north), so they're both pretty much interchangable as far as a true east/west split anyway.
