It's not my place to tell people who or what to cheer for, but maybe we should stop bragging about being the only show in town if our fans are so interested in "the closest city" teams. Ever been to about any of the sec states? They don't give a rats *** about Sunday's, it's all about Saturday's. Maybe if our fans funneled some of their Pittsburgh energy into the states prime time show maybe our fanbase could compare.

that penalty was a killer

I literally logged on here just to see if a) there was a pacman thread and b) if there was a "you can't be a Steeler fan and a WVU fan thread.

This thread has both. Stay predictable Blue Lot.

To each there own.

I'm not a lunatic, nor do I believe that simply playing at Heinz field is the reason Pitt locks up western pa recruits. I'm from Beckley, grew up loving the mountaineers and not giving a damn about pro sports, I was and am still completely consumed by the gold and blue. I really was turned off by the steelers by my time in Morgantown. Many of the Pittsburgh people I was around looked at WVU as their 2nd viewing option. Is that their fault? No. But when they act like they didn't care when we lost, or God forbid, didn't show up to WVU games (or even watch many times) it pissed me off to no end.

We see different pictures based from our experiences. That's all.
I'm from Beckley as well. Guess you missed all the VPI fans there?

So you feel that WVU's fanbase is weak because they watch and root for NFL teams?

When you have multiple priorities can you ever favor one as strongly as a group that has one main focus?

The big fanbases in the south and even the Midwest have truly 1 show in town and their fanbases are much stronger than ours (Nebraska, Alabama, Iowa, etc.)

I'd be inclined to give him a pass considering Beaker is hurt...but has that sap ever won a playoff game? Yeesh.

I would have but to see how this game ended was an issue.

Team composure is something Cincy is failing big time.

Yet you are proud that the Steelers QB is a rapist. POW!

Never raped anyone.

Tahoe: Woman admitted in an email that the sex was consensual.

Ga: Woman told police officers at the scene what they did was consensual. The only person that claimed a crime took place was her friend who was hammered out of her gourd. It's in the police report if you want to read it.

He was guilty of being a young, drunken cooze hound and of being kind of a prick. Luckily he didn't get himself into real trouble, and by all accounts got his act together.

Don't be naive. I worked with a girl at that time who was from Pittsburgh and who was then and still is a die hard Steelers fan. She worked at different clubs in Pittsburgh and said that Ben and Jeff Reed was the biggest creeps ever and that both took advantage of women

That's your opinion, bud.
Fine, go within a 700 mile radius of Denver right now. All you see is Denver ****. Same with the Cowboys all the time (not to mention all those Cowboy fans living in Beckley, not sure WTF was up with that. Then we had the diehard Skins fans too) When the Rams were good, it was the same with them. Lots of Saints love down south and same with the Falcons. Now that the Cats are rolling with Cam, you see that **** everywhere as well.

The reality is that the Steelers are consistently good with a **** season here and there. If they were the Browns maybe WVians wouldn't follow them as closely, then again maybe they would root for someone else.

BTW, what NFL team do you root for? What MLB team? What NHL team? What NBA team?

Well, I read every word of that massive police report in GA. So, I'm most certainly not naive. There is a reason he wasn't charged, and if you take the time to read it, it's clear.

And yes, Ben definetley chased a ton of skirt. But, he didn't rape or assault either of those two women.

I never said he was a model citizen when he was young, all I did was present facts as they are available and known.

He also seems to have grown up and does a lot for police departments around the country.

You want to keep a certain opinion about him because he banged a few bar flies in the Burgh? Go ahead, I don't care. But I always give people the facts (again, they are available) when they start throwing "rapist" around.

Carry on.

Rooting for the regional NFL team is the same as rooting for Pitt. The Blue Lot never ceases to amuse me. I wonder what's next. Use Pittsburgh Int'l to fly to Florida? You support Pitt. Use Heinz ketchup? You support Pitt.
Eat at Primanti's? You support Pitt. Sounds like the "if you buy weed you support terrorism" line. And saying the UPitt is the same as everything else in Pittsburgh is greatly overstating UPitt's importance to the city.

Yes he has grown up and he wasn't ever charged but many people know he did more than just "chase skirt." He was a creep back in his day and did some things that were disgusting. Lucky for him it didn't get him in trouble and it seems as if he has matured. Doesn't excuse the fact that so called Mountaineer fans are giddy that Pac Man got a personal foul called on him that helped their Steelers win and at the same time calling him a thug while supporting members of their own team who display thug behaviors.

I'm serious when I say I don't root for any pro teams. I cheer for our alums to do well in the NFL, could care less about any of the outcomes really. Love the NBA playoffs, best basketball in the world, but once again - I don't care who wins. Once again, folks can cheer for who they want to cheer for, I'm just plenty satisfied with WVU and don't feel the need to obsess about any other teams. To each their own.

Wow. Maybe I'm the odd man out, but I just can't see getting THIS jacked outta shape about a pro team winning or losing. Yes these two teams have some bad blood, and the refs lost control... shoulda thrown a couple guys out early on to set the tone, Burfict being one of them. Anyway, big Bengals fan here, and hate that they shot themselves in the foot, unloading all six rounds, but it's a new day, and the Mountaineers play a couple big games this week. Life goes on.

Now on the other hand, if WVU ever loses a game like this...it would sting for a while, and a take some time to get rid of that ****** taste.

I live in an SEC state...1.5 hours from Tiger Stadium. I have to say you couldn't be more wrong. Passion for both is equal. Sports radio even in Baton Rouge is a heavy mix of both. People everywhere are purple and gold and "Tiger Bait" on Saturdays and black and gold and "Who Dat" on Sundays. Same people for both.

I am a Steeler fan and I'll say that The entire 4th quarter was a cluster as far as the referees go. What was Porter doing on the field in the first place? I am sure he verbally went after Burlick and Jones knowing one of them wou,d react. The referees let this game get completely out of hand. Pathetic officiating and the undisciplined Bengals couldn't handle their emotions
Hines Ward was pretty good at pushin opposing players hot buttons and getting personal fouls or unsportman like penalties. Steelers are smooth operators when it comes to pushin hot buttons. It is fun to watch.

I was never an Adam Jones fan. As I am sure some of you recall, I could not stand seeing him wearing the blue and gold. But still, that call Saturday night was BS. Somebody needed to flag assistant coach Porter (for offsetting penalties) and nobody wearing striped had the nads to do it.
