A great game with three people is what I call Nines.

Nine points per hole. Scoring goes like this, in different scoring scenarios:

All three players tie = 3/3/3
Par/bogey/worse = 5/3/1
Par/bogey/bogey = 5/2/2
Birdie (or better)/bogey(or worse)/bogey(or worse) = 7/1/1
Birdie (or better)/bogey/worse = 7/2/0
Par/par/bogey = 4/4/1

Birdies only get you 7 points if no one else pars.

Usually start out at $0.25/point, because low point man can press any time he'd like. Instead of carrying out multiple bets, a press just multiplies all existing wholes by a factor of 1. So, after one press, 18 points is split amongst the three players. We've had 9 or 10 presses in a game before, making each hole worth 81 or 90 points. Usually set a $50 limit on payouts.

9s is pretty much the only 3 man game I'm aware of....

We also play 6s sometimes w/ a 4some of good players. Round Robin of 2 man teams switching every 6 holes.

I have to play for at least something, otherwise I quickly lose interest. I guess that just comes from playing competitively in the past. I know a lot of people just like to get out and enjoy a casual round which is fine. Hands shaking/stomach in knots standing over a 4 footer to win a little scratch is my kind of enjoyment.

The game i like most is Vegas.

Playing for money always makes me focus more, so i think its good for your game.

"Vegas" is the name of a golf betting game for two teams of two players each. Winnings and losings can add up quickly in Las Vegas, so it's a game preferred by better (or wealthier) players.

In Las Vegas, each 2-person team plays for a team score on each hole. But it's not a normal team score. The team members' scores are not combined; rather, they are paired: Player A gets a 4, Player B gets a 5. The team score is not 9, it's 45 (the lower number goes first).

If both players get 4s, that's 44; if one gets an 8 and the other gets a 3, that's 38.

The team score represents the number of points each team earns per hole. Points are tracked throughout the round and the differential is paid off at the end of the round. A single-hole example: Team A scores 4 and 5 for a 45; Team B scores 5 and 6 for a 56; the difference is 11 points.

Points can be worth any amount. Low-rollers should only play for nickels and dimes. Vegas is often played for a dollar per point, and it adds up quickly at that level.

And if your group of four is "flipping the bird," the money can really start to change hands. When employing this rule, a team that makes a birdie and wins the hole can flip the other team's score for that hole. So instead of the low number going first, the high number goes first. The opponent's 5 and 6 wouldn't be 56, but 65.

I've played using the Vegas Poker Chips several time. That's pretty fun and it's good to use when you have a big gap between the handicaps of the people in your foursome.

What is the best shoe out there in terms of durability and waterproof warranty? Seems like I remember hearing that maybe Nike has 3 or 4 years on theirs, but very few people either know about it or take advantage of it.

-Nevel Meade is probably my favorite public track in the Louisville area. Place is always in great shape and you can go low on that front nine.

-I like Heritage Hill but it isn't my favorite, I actually prefer Kearney off that list over HH.

-Top 5 Favorite KY courses (played)
1. UofL Golf Club
2. Hurstbourne CC
3. Nevel Meade
4. Woodhaven CC (learned how to play there #nostalgia)
5. The Bull

I haven't played many outside of Louisville so my list is pretty biased.

My normal foursome includes two baptist preachers. Getting them to gamble would be harder than getting them to dance. Probably a good thing since they are the two best players in the group.

Just talked to Jeff at Bridgestone online chat for the fun of it and asked him to fit me a golf ball. Told me E6, which i had previously used before by fitting myself and what i want out of a ball.

I get ProV1s at $27 per dozen, and it's proven to be the best ball year after year...you can't go wrong with the ProV1.

...but the Bridgestone Tour B330S is right there with it.

Apparently the Tour Srixon, TM, and Callaway are all great balls, but mentally playing a golf ball I associate with a driver brand (TM or Callaway) just seems weird -- I've never hit them.

U just ripped somebody for saying they got their clubs at a discounted price, yet you're claiming you get balls for half off? Are they refurbished? Used? Because new pro v's are always between $48-55 depending where you are at. Unless u have the hookup like me lol

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the ProV, you should check out Snell's My Tour Ball. $31.99 a dozen, no tax and free shipping, or at least it was last year.

I don't really care for the name or logo, but the play of the ball itself is basically indistinguishable. I actually think it spins a bit more on short shots than the ProV.

I've tried several different golf balls over the years, and finally settled on ProV1x's as the ball that's right for me.

Do you have a favorite mark that you put on every ball you use? Mine is just a simple blue dot under the number. Are you picky about what number ball you play?

I like the Srixon Z stars and the TM tour preferred. Both can be had relatively cheap on Amazon.

Oh, thanks. Had no idea what ProV1s cost, I'm pretty new to golf. [eyeroll]

*Only time I'll hit a ProV is when I find them on the course. I usually buy TM when they are on sale. Until I get better, I don't think a certain golf ball really matters.

*HH is my favorite course in the area closely followed by NM.

*Best course I've played is the Ocean Club in Nassau when I was on my honeymoon.

At least I didn't say "no you idiot! Golf balls are the same price no matter where you go" like you did about clubs. Because actually, you can get clubs at almost cost online if you know enough about it..

Lol, ok bud. "if you know enough about it" [laughing]

Please post link for the new Mizunos at cost (for a regular consumer) online.

If you have a hookup, good for you. My college golf team had a similar deal with Titleist, and I got a complete set at cost -- those days are long gone.

Sorry for ruining the elite golf thread with my novice experiences.
Had hoped to pick up some tips, and suggestions, but I'll look elsewhere.

Na I just think it's funny how these dudes that can barely break 80 get on here and talk down to people like you and call you an idiot like you don't have a clue. I've bought plenty of brand new clubs online at basically cost. It is the way to go unless money is not an issue to you.

I can't imagine why anyone would buy clubs online just to save a few bucks. It's a big investment and I would want to be properly fitted. A good set of irons can last 10 years. It's long term investment.

Best thing to do is go to a demo day at a course or range, figure out what works best for you, then shop around online and find a good deal. They're out there. I got my brand new set of ap2's online for $700 when they were retailing at $1100. Same with my putter. Paid $200, retail $400. Or you can just pay close to double the price at your local golf shop, it's on you lol

If I had it to do over again, I would do it different. I didn't understand the club fitting process and none of the shops I went into mentioned it. They just wanted me to buy whatever they were selling on the rack.
I'm gonna get over to Man O' War at some point and talk to those guys and see what my options are.

Just jump online a do a little digging. New Mizunos are $999, but you can probably get them for around $400 if you know where to look, and only want 7-Pw

No way. I'd like to see Mizuno's at cost. If you find them, it'll be a knock off chinese website. Congrats on having knock offs, though.
