Assuming they are of good character, I’d be ecstatic about anyone who made us competitive again, regardless of where they went to school
So how many years does Spencer have to run his own facility before Iowa can offer him a job? Seems arbitrary and stupid. Another team will snap him up in the mean time.Taylor though has waaay more experience and did run his own training facility for years.

Dake is the man. Seasoned, knows the PSU program inside and out. International superstar! He's the guy.
Taylor was doing plenty of coaching though, a lot more than Spencer who has yet to even say he wants to coach.
what does this even mean. He’s 37 and the most decorated American wrestler ever.
I’m not sure if he’s the right hire but he’s surpassed by no one in terms of individual success.
There are absolutely more than two people that could do better.
The program is dead and so is my love for it. Didn’t even tune in until 165. Just didn’t feel like it.

Iowas going to need more than just 1 big name coach to turn this trainwreck around. Burroughs, Nolf, and Snyder. Then stop paying money chasing transfers and pay the coaches all 1 mil a year.
Kids these days are different, he does not resonate with the youth that has made “6-7” popular. Kids now are more worried about future and how bad we did things in the past.
I think it was Flo that did the video a few years ago. Dake was training with no blue lights, different health kickers that nobody in “past” wrestling community has even heard of. Dake could push that quirky stuff on to kids these days and relate to them.
Burroughs comes across as a Jersey kid from the street that did it the “Rocky Balboa” way and made it with sense of arrogance. Not going to sit well with kids that are going to beat the PSU “fun” style that is winning today.
Maybe someday Burroughs will prove wrong and I’ll gladly eat crow

I don't care what they're doing to everyone else; I care what they're doing to us...three years in a row and it's only getting worse!! I'm officially over it; bring in the changes.
Thoughts on Askren taking over? He'd bring in some quality assistants and would be able to recruit with Taylor and Carl.

My problem is that with the recruits DT is picking up at Okie State in the outyears he will soon be able to compete with PSU but we will still be getting worse. We lose some serious talent this year and there's nobody to back them up for the next couple years...NOBODY. And I know who we have and who we're getting but they won't be competing with what PSU and Okie has and is getting. We need to start fixing this issue; we've waited long enough...
Comparing results doesn't so much matter. There are guys who haven't been a coach that could do better and there are guys who are currently head coaches that could do better. Being at Iowa with their brand and resources can add a ton to potential success. The longer they stay the current path the less valuable the brand becomes.
I don’t mean to diss a hawk but Taylor also has Olympic and world golds to his name and those mean something to recruits. Taylor also is able practice hard with his guys. I don’t know Lee could do that with his knees for the next 15 years. Has Lee even shown any interest in coaching? Taylor did and his training center was evidence of it.
Ditto, just not excited about it anymore because you pretty much know what's going to happen. The product is boring and the results are boring.

Outscrambled, same, that's been a given for years.
Out techniqued, again yeah, that's become common.
But at least we could hang in most matches bc if conditioning... but not tonight. We were gassed in literally every match.
That isn't happening if our staff is still coaching guys to be their best. Something is severely broken.

Not disagreeing with you at all. I’m ready for change also.. In my opinion, Beth is not going to take a chance at a coach with lesser results than Brands.
While I agree the Iowa culture and history has garnered results and other coaches don’t have that luxury. I just feel as if we are already taking a “chance” swing for the fences and get an unknown and create the next star. These other coaches “might” be better, but results say otherwise

Lee has world golds and Olympic Silver. He is as credentialed as Taylor.
For years I was the outsider saying I did not like having the Brands and that their style - coaching and recruiting - was obsolete. It’s weird to have this much company.
However, I disagree that Spencer is the answer. He simply is not a leader - and I’ve heard him say it himself. Of our former wrestlers, I think Kemdawg has the most potential. Maybe the pair of them would work, with Lee as the face of the program and helping with recruiting.

You are right on a lot of things but Burroughs is one of if not the best guys in wrestling. He’s not what you are describing. Sure he has a selfishness to him but every single other elite wrestler has the same thing. It kind of comes with the territory.

Beth does not appear to be afraid to make tough changes when needed. I do believe this will be Brands’ last year, if not next.

Will agree to disagree.. if there was anybody looking hard at him, he would be in coaching already after losing to Dake in the trials.
One of the best ever I agree. He got passed up on the scale, time to move on.
He has a young family,at some point a career needs to take over from competing. I just don’t feel like the offers were there at that time

DT is fully vested too, coaching the heck out of these guys. Look what he did to Valencia in one year. Valencia always gassed, technique wasn't quite there. He never gassed once in the world championships and ABSOLUTELY destroyed the field.
Just cancelled BTN+ and Rokfin. Keeping Flo because I love wrestling and want to be able to access wrestlers' matches, etc., for the several Hawks' wrestlers I like as well as a few from other schools. I'm torn about discontinuing donating to the HWC. Just don't see where my money - or anyone else's - has made a difference. I'm so bummed that our two Iowa legends couldn't keep us competitive...sucks so bad!! Big time bummed!!
