So Papa John is out as CEO. For those not plugged in, he used the NFL anthem mess as an excuse for declining sales on an earnings call a few months ago... Question for the board, is Papa John's Pizza considerably worse than it was 10 years ago?

I have not decided if it's gone down hill or everything else is improved. Either way, it's a last resort pizza option for me.

If you are within 20 miles of a Lost Pizza Company then you should have no other options. Pizza Shack is also high on my list. I will not order Puzza Hut, Domino or Papa Johns any more.

He could be right. I mean a lot of people boycotted the NFL and it's sponsors.

Are those chains or local places? Where are you located? As far as I know, we don't have either one here.

Crack Shack was Jackson and expanded to Madison but not Rankin County. Lost Pizza Company is a chain I think. It may be just a Mississippi chain. I live near Reservoir in God’s County, also known as Rankin.

It’s never been good.

I feel no sympathy for him and the billionaire class, always blaming their problems on other people and trying to get handouts from the government.

Lost Pizza is pretty freaking awesome. Do they deliver? Looks like it’s a Mississippi (and Memphis) chain.

Lost Pizza started in Indianola.

The original is the best. I’ve been to several franchises, which were good, but can’t match the original. My favorite pizza place. It was started by a couple of young guys about 15 years ago or so. State grads maybe?

Papa johns is the best of the national chains. Not in the same category as Lost Pizza though.

Not the first time he’s stepped aside as CEO.

No doubt papa johns is not even in the same league as pizza shack or lost pizza. I was talking chains only.

I prefer pizza shack over lost pizza though.

There’s got to be 1,000 calories in a slice of Pizza Shack pizza. It tastes pretty good but no thanks. I go for the philly cheesesteak there. Admittedly, not exactly health food either.

When I moved in at State back in '98, my roomie claimed to have a 2 for 1 Papa John's coupon. I never once saw this coupon, and never had to present it upon delivery. I swear I used that "coupon" a good year and a half with no problems.

One of the originators is the son of the owners of PeaSoup's Lottafreeze in Indianola. Peasoup Lott was the original owner and his son Tommy took over. If you ever get a chance, stop at Peasoups and order the shrimp dinner brought in fresh daily. Only 6 shrimp but they give Jumbo Shrimp it's name. Also, they took the famous "Floating Chili Burger" from Labella's Drive In when it closed and improved on it. A regular hamburger floating in a plate of chili. Hmm Hmm.

As for Lost Pizza, the young men took over the empty building next to Peasoups and opened "Lost Dog Pizza Company". Unfortunately, there was already a "Lost Dog Pizza Company" up in the Northeast, and they had to drop the Dog part of the name. The draw to their pizza was not only Specialty Ingredients but incredibly THIN dough! they opened restaurant number 2 in Cleveland on Hwy 61 North and decided franchising was the better way to go than to be proprietors to a Specialty Pizza Chain.

I think there are 12 or 13 restaurants now.

I've never understood the Papa Johns appeal in Starkville

Aside from it being an option at 1am for delivery, I have never understood the appeal of Papa Johns.

Starkville had multiple good local pizza options that all had a little variety. Daves makes a good pizza. Stromboli's was always good in comparison to chains. You also had Old Venice at the time.

When Pizza Hut is under good management, they make the best chain pizza in my opinion. It being a reliable option has always seemed close to 50/50. That said, when you hit it right, it is the best chain option.

I enjoy Lost Pizza. If you are ever coming past Hernando, stop at Bon Cibo. Order the Memphis pizza. It’s basiclly a sausage and chess plate on a pizza. It will change your life.

I've used that same 2 for 1 coupon in Starkville at least 20 times. But I never saw it. I've talked to a bunch of people who used it too. It's like one of those things you can only remember when you've been drinking, like calculus.

First week of classes in '99, there was a stack of the coupons probably hundreds high in the lobby. Friends and i grabbed pretty much all of them.
They said 'expires in 30 days' or some stupid **** like that, but almost never had to use them.
We used them all thru college and eventually some random manager argued with a buddy of mine our senior year about the coupons because he claimed they were no longer valid. Hilarious phone argument ensued since the coupons effectively never expire.
