Maybe he's a smokescreen for the Dan Marino/Jimmy Buffett/Morgan Freeman/Jesus combo pickers.

What's wrong with Pap. You guys who want some random celeb shipped in so you can feel good inside are weak. Paps is a high profile athlete and he actually went to MSU unlike Katie satanism Perry.

I love Paps. Lot of baseball prospects on campus this weekend. Little bit of crossover recruiting having Paps as our celeb.

Paps is a great pick. But Strickland keeping it a surprise and making the fan base think it was some huge celebrity all week is an *** move. No reason to keep it a secret.

Totally agree. If you announce Paps on Wednesday or Thursday everyone will be excited because Paps is a high profile athlete and one of our most successful MLB players. Instead, they keep it a secret all week and people think it's Walken or Farrell. I'm afraid there won't be near as much excitement as there could've been because Paps, as great as he is, is kind of a letdown for those people thinking an A list celeb was coming.

It was confirmed already that it WOULDN'T be Ferrell... Paps is fantastic IMO... Why can't our fans just be happy..? Who gives a **** if it's an A Lister? Katy Perry's moment in the grove was just awkward to me. I'll agree there really isn't a need to hold out on the announcement, but, c'mon lets just be happy with the exposure.

Anyone that lets a 10 minute TV segment disappoint them on such a big day for State needs to rethink their priorities.

Bully goin with the call to the bullpen was pretty amazing. Couldn't be more perfect. Dual symbolism there.

I agree, I think Paps is a good pick. But some of the twitter reaction from state fans is less than enthusiastic. That's due to the stupid mystery picker crap that was pulled by espn and the athletic dept

Stricklin said on H2H yesterday that he didn't even know who it would be. It's ESPN's decision.

"I would have to be in a body bag six feet under before I'd ever pick Ole Miss for anything."

Perfect.

Papelbon was great, but I think ESPN getting a "main stream" celebrity last week made it tough to just come out with a deeply-tied sports celebrity, so, let's face it, they heavily teased a Ferrell/Walken appearance.

Can't complain.

It's amazing on this thread that some think our AD is Scott Strickland and not the correct spelling, Stricklin, which pscf3 typed.

STRICKLIN doesn't make that call. Espn does. I don't care who they got to do it, We got our 3 hours of fame (it was great publicity, but 3 weeks from now, no one will give two ***** who the guest picker was). I care about what goes down on the field. Hail state. And 17 auburn.

I thought Paps did a good job. Was pleasantly suprised by his accent despite all his time spent playing for major league teams in the northeast. He looked like he was having a good time on the show. Glad he was able to represent us and I'd give him an A+.

Agreed. I didn't even know there was a guest picker on Gameday until last Thursday. Let's just win the game.

My only complaint about Paps was they introduced him as a "9-6 with a 2.50 ERA in 3 years with MSU." Producers should have tabbed him as a 5 time All-Star, WS champion, and fastest closer to 300 saves. Saw a lot of "who?" on Twitter. I understand some of it was sarcastic, but a lot wasn't.

Bad intro.

Well they did show a highlight of him closing out the World Series for the Red Sox and doing that crazy celebration dance in the infield. I guess the intro info was used to tie him to MSU. Most everyone who follows sports knows who he is. Those who don't were just tuning in for another Katy Perry sighting.

Of course I know that. He's the highest paid closer in baseball history. People know him. But I felt like it was a sloppy intro. Just me.
