Strictly as an observant outsider the past year or so, methinks this may be why Coach wants to play UNC in North Carolina with no return game. He says it with every post?

Stansbury is 17-44 against the top 25, and 51-82 overall against the top 50...I rest my case (numbers compliments of ScoobaDawg)

More ammunition for him?

Since he has been at State, Stans and Bianco have consistently been the best coaches any state university has had in the major sports. Granted Bianco hasn't made it to Omaha and Polk did, but I still stand by that.

it could be that Coach wants us to upgrade our schedule to help our RPI come Tourney time so that we wont be an 8 or 9 seed every year...if stansbury can't handle the upgraded schedule then we need to get another coach. If he does handle it, then we are doing what we are supposed to be doing.

"Stans and Bianco have consistently been the best coaches any state university has had in the major sports"

So what? Until they reach Omaha or a Sweet 16, they really havent done all that much. Just because the other sports have been ******, doesnt mean that those tow get lowered standards

I know I am arguing with a wall but your expectations of the program was a 60% clip for NCAA tourney appearances.

although I can see how some would probably say they would rather have the CWS appearance and some ****** years mixed in.

I like to be consistently competitive, but at the same time getting to Omaha is the reason we play the game. I have nothing to base this on, but I think Bianco feels more pressure to get there this year than he ever has. His coaching style has changed somewhat, especially in regards to how he handles the pitchers. We also are more dedicated to the "small ball" game. It seems he is changing things up a bit to make it over the hump.

No. Since he took both sets of Bulldogs to the CWS during that timeframe. And he won the SEC outright at Georgia for their first championship in about 50 years.

I have no doubt that there is a lot of pressure there to make it, but I think small ball fits your offensive players pretty well, and I think that's a big reason why he is doing that. You make your decisions based on the strengths of your players if you're a good coach.

I think your bullpen may be a little bit deeper to, than in some years past, while your starters may not be quite as strong, which again is playing to the strengths of the team.

I was hoping that was clear by the context of the remark. But having said that, Polk's year in Georgia doesn't count. I said in this state. Geesh!

but at the same time, Bianco has never come close to having a season like Polk did two years ago.

I think if you compare Bianco to Polk, the most fair thing to do is compare them at the same stage in their career, because Bianco is now in his prime, while Polk was at the end during that time frame.

And if you do that Polk is clearly better.

Anyone can really make it whatever they want to when you put it in a vaccum.

was based upon the assumption that we somehow upgraded our schedule and Stansbury couldnt handle the upgrade

But we have had decent bullpens many years during his tenure. But he has shown a much quicker trigger finger this year than ever before. It might be partly due, as you say, to the relative strength of our starters. But I think he has also decided to change the strategies that haven't worked in the past. I could be wrong.

It doesn't make sense unless you want even worse results. Which might be the case.

Here's what I think. You are a frustrated bulldog basketball supporter. You want Stans to either **** or get off the can. So, in order to force the issue, you champion a beefed up OOC schedule. The likes of a Memphis State schedule (yeah, I still call them that), figuring that the results will not be good. But you don't care. You know that with more OOC losses that will make it all the more hard for State, er Stans, to make the tourney. Which is good, for you.

You remind me of a lot of Ole Miss folks that sound like if Bianco doesn't make it to Omaha this year he should be fired. SourReb, I'm looking at you.

I never intended to compare the careers of Bianco and Polk. My point was that during a certain span of time (since Stansbury had been at State) Stans and Bianco had been the best coaches in the state. And my only reason for doing so was to give kudos to Stansbury.

Now if you think that Polk was a better in-state coach during that time frame, I disagree. Yes, he did make it to Omaha one year, but overall I don't think his record was as good. But again, this is a side issue. My whole point was concerning Stans.
