Casey was asked to expand on that, and he's just physically and mentally drained. He's worried about his health - but nothing specific- and being able to be with his family.

Does that sound like the candidate that we want to inject energy into the program?

Then he dropped this: "And sometimes you need new challenges," Casey said. "Everybody knows that there are a lot of openings around the country, and I've been called a lot about them."</p>

as an excuse to leave, kind of softening the blow to a school that he's been at for a long time. Pat McMahon spewed the family excuse and then stated that MSU will always be good at baseball and someone else will come in and do fine. He wanted to move on to another challenge. Pat Casey's whole comments sound similar to McMahon's leaving speech.

If it's really that bad, he won't coach anywhere next year. If Byrne hires him, that means he's over his tiredness.

Brian O'Conner is interested in our job, Greg Byrne's first offer for this job is a complete no brainer at this point.

I had begun moving Casey down my list, but this just takes him off of it.

No one believed EJ when he said he and his wife always wanted to retire to NW Ark, and I don't believe Casey when he says he's burned out. This is clearly posturing for a new contract/new job.

I just dont see him putting in all that work and leaving. He has raised alot of money and used alot of energy to get his dream built, gonna be hard to leave that.

that would seem to knock a huge hole in the argument that Cohen, once hired, would be here to stay. I mean, if we could lure Casey out of his home state, why couldn't someone who wants to buy a program lure Cohen away from his alma mater?

The guy has 8 years left on his contract? The guy turned down Notre Dame. If he is Catholic, he pretty well got excommunicated to stay put. I don't know. I just don't see it. But, I sure like the guy's resume.

3 postseasons in 14 years. Great 3 year run of players, and now back to mediocrity again in 2008. And their program was better off when he took over than Kentucky's was. Finishing 6th of worse in 8 of the last 10 years just doesnt impress me for some reason.

but that back-to-back national championship with pretty much different teams is pretty impressive to me.

I tell you what....the guy can do that for us, and then fall to ****, and we can fire him, and I will still feel pretty good. Damn, we need us a national championship sign at DNF.

he better leave his hitting coach in Charlottesville. He's never had a team with more than four batters hitting over .300.

I do hope we get his pitching coach, no matter who our coach is.</p>
