He is a hack who just recycles his old "material." The shame of it is he actually has some talent but for some reason he has a burr in has *** about Starkville.

Starkville is a better basketball town than most.

He also lists Atlanta as the best town in the ACC. I'd rather go get rocked in Chapel Hill or Boston or Miami. And I'm from Georgia.

I'm a pretty big fan of his Forde Yard Dash columns... they're really good in football season and pretty good in basketball season.

Let me start this next blurb by saying that I'm really proud of Starkville and personally think it'sa fantastic college town without too many other distractions. It's exactly what I was looking for in a college...

On the whole though, is he wrong? Starkville SHOULD probably be labeled the worst SECcollege town... I really don't disagree with the assessment.

I like it the way it is. We win a few football games the secret is going to get out no matter how bad Pat Forde hates us.

No recruiting, no spring practice, no games, coaching searches have died down, and so on. Forde just might bored out of his mind, so he figures he'll just pull up the ol' stereotypical college mad lib and publish it.

My opinion: How in the hell does Gainsville never get mentioned as one of the worst college towns? Sure, they have good teams, but that road trip was a 12 out of 10 on the sucks *** scale.

I always hear how terrible Starkville is fromoutsiders. I remember the comments of Andre Ware wondering ifthey had airports even close to the town while Ole Miss Uses Tupelo and you have to fly in to Columbus to get to Auburn. I am not putting down Auburn but the two towns seem similar. Starkville has really received an upgrade over the years. The funny thing about these people is that they are the same ones that think that Little Dooey's is the best BBQ they have ever had.

I could walk to their campus from my house. Even during the 6-0 football run, they're a terrible, terrible fan base.

It's not completely his opinion:

The Minutes asked writers who cover the six major conferences to name the best and worst towns in their respective leagues -- and the best and worst basketball towns.

to actually come to Starkville on an SEC weekend before they rehashed this ****? The crowded bars on Thursday night through Saturday night and the Junction on Friday nights (yes, Friday nights) and Saturday is better than several SEC places I've been and as good as every other. And I've been to all but Fayetteville and Athens.

I have yet to see more than just a few people hang out at the junction after dark on Fridays. I find it dissapointing-just rows of empty tents.

I have been going to Starkville forever and lived there for three years, but I can't think of another town that Starkville is better than. Nashville is a city but they do have a Vanderbilt student area.

When I think of a college town I think of

Oxford, Starkville, Athens, etc.

Not

Nashville, Baton Rouge, Atlanta

Those cities are great and all, but they aren't college towns.

You could argue that Starkville was the least fun of the 12, but then someone has to be last. I've partied in a large majority of the SEC towns/cities and Starkville isn't far behind.

Same argument with girls. Hell maybe we are 12 but its not like the difference in 1 and 12 is that much.

he gets bored if there is no big city involved and most people have a different definition of what a true college town is

some of his favorites wouldn't even qualify as a true college town the way most define them....

each to his own....

you are doing something wrong. I won't take offense of a #12 rating on the SEC list. Every SEC town that I've been to should rank higher than Starkville, but only because of student population size and quantity of cultural offerings. Starkville is no slouch in either respect - there is always something interesting to do. But, in terms of sheer quantity, Starkville is likely at the bottom.

Like I said, if you can't have a damn good time in Starkville, it's your fault, not Starkville's. People that have nothing but bad things to say about Starkville either A) have never been there in the last 15 years (or ever at all) or B) have unreasonable expectations (i.e. comparing Starkville offerings to that of a metro area like Nashville) or C) are Ole Miss graduates.

If he wants to say it's the worst town of all BCS schools, D1 schools, etc., then I might get a little pissed.

so I can make an objectiveobservation. Simply put,Starkville is a thousand times better than Atlanta and some of the other cities mentioned in the article as far as being a truecollege town.My family's roots and bloodaretoocrimson for me to be totally unbiased in many ways but about this topic I can be.I firmly believe that MSU and Starkville offer a much better opportunity for a college student to enjoy an idealcollege life style without the intrusion of many ofsociety's ills. If you are looking for ****** and crime then Atlanta and other large cities are the places to be. But if astudentwants an enjoyable college experience in a safe enviroment plusthe best (SEC)collegeathletics in the worldthenStarkville should be near the top of the list.

I love Starkville. Love Starkville. But anybody who says they didn't wish Starkville is more like Athens is either lying or stupid. Athens is incredible. I don't want Starkville to be anything other than Starkville, I just want Starkville to be better, and it can and will be.

Auburn has a few advantages over Starkville. The primary one is getting here. It's on the interstate, about halfway from ATL to Montgomery, or just down I-65 or 280 from Bham. The Auburn-Opelika area is considerably larger than Starkville, with more restaurant, hotel, and shopping options. It's also a destination site for many golfers annually. There is also a nice division of campus and downtown, with multiple restaurants, shopping and a few bars in the downtown area, literally across the street from campus. It's a nice ambiance. I still like Starkville, but those are some area where Auburn has Starkville beat.

I tend to agree. What Forde is saying isn't so bad, although few people especially outsiders would see it that way.

IMO, being the worst SEC city is like being the ugliest girl in the Miss America pageant.

in the SEC when you are talking about the actual city and not the sports in that city....I went to State and live in Nashville and it is a slap in the face to Vanderbilt how much this city could care less about Vandy. UT is king in Nashville as well as in every city in the state. UT sports flood the sports radio station up here to a point where its disgusting. I hate UT.

I have been there several times, have several friends that are Auburn alums etc... I have always found that Auburn and Starkville are a lot alike. One advantage that Starkville has that I think people overlook is that you can fly into Sarkville. To get to Auburn, you have to fly to Atlanta or Montgomery and then make the hour drive.
I live in DC and have had several fans of other SEC schools visit Starkville with me for gameday. All have come away with a "I was wrong about Starkville" attitude. People who are still bashing it have not been in the last five years or so, guaranteed.

bigger is better and that seemingly is about his only criteria. Hey, some people just don't want to be in small towns and I guess he's in that camp.

for starters. Baton Rouge, Lexington and Knoxville are okay towns I guess, but nothing to write home about.Never been to Fayetteville or Columbia so I have no opinion there. Athens, Nashville & Tuscaloosa are definitely all better than 'Vegas though.

this says a lot about those who are passing judgment.
