John (Starkville): If State beats LSU wed night, and go 6 and 2 the rest of the way, can they make the dance? 22 and 9 and 12 and 4 in the sec.

Pat Forde: John: 12-4 in the SEC ain't what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, it's good. But this is a fairly rotten SEC this season, and that 77 RPI Mississippi State is packing doesn't help. If that RPI number doesn't get down into the 60s it will be tough to get an invitation.

our RPI will jump into the mid-60's on warrennolan.com. This is the site that I use the most. It's great for baseball. We are currently 73.

Edited to say:

If we beat LSU, South Carolina, home against Auburn, Bama and Florida, our RPI will be in the low 60's. Maybe even high 50's. LSU, USC, and Florida have near top 50 RPI's. I say we go 5-3 to close out heading to Tampa and we make the NCAA's.

I realize the SEC is down, but to even suggest that we'd be on the bubble at 22-9 (12-4), with wins over LSU and at least of the remaining East teams on the schedule, is asinine. Hell, if we win tomorrow night 12-4 might win the conference.

San Diego, Charlotte, Cincy, WSU, & Texas Tech games are killing our RPI.
It all comes back to early season coaching... Not having the team ready...Stans just can't win outside the SEC...

has progressed has given us a better shot at making the NCAA Tournament than most anybody thought going into this season.

I tend to agree. I am not part of the crew that thinks we should trade our coach (yet), but it seems like Stans has a mental block outside the conf. Even with a young team, the early losses look pretty bad. And there is def a track record of this happening each year it seems.

has Kentucky in their bracket projection right now (before the FL game) and not us, even though we have a better RPI, a stronger SOS, a better SEC record, and punked them at their place.

that Pat Forde isn't following State. I guess during his little chat he peeks over at the RPI and goes from there, but with our remaining schedule, there's no way that 12-4 leaves us in the 60s in RPI. I think 12-4 is a long shot, but that means 6-2 in the 2nd half of the conference. We jumped like 70 spots going 6-2 in the first half of the conference against significantly weaker RPIs. I can't imagine 6-2 in the 2nd half not at least getting us into the 40s.

didn't we install 4 guard at Nichols St. So, we are 9-3 after the change.

I think that wipes out the early season losses with the new 4 guard... assuming we go 5-3 the rest of the way. we are in!</p>

We are playing better now than in early season, but this happens alot with Stans..
We don't have a 4 guard RPI and a late season RPI.
Lose some early games to a bunch of horrible teams, play well in the SEC, then lose in the 2nd round of NCAA..
It's Stans version of groundhog day.

If we don't make the tourney this year it will because of those early BAD losses...

That better happen with ANY coach that's worth a rat's ***.

Why would you want a coach that has his team playing better sooner rather than later? Like Andy Kennedy last year.

You are borderline basketball illiterate.

Problem is Stans teams usually start out slow, lose too many games we should win, peak in the middle of the SEC, win the SEC West, then fissile out in the SEC tourney and 2nd round of NCAA.. You want your team to peak in the NCAA, not the middle of the SEC season.

You want your team to peak in the NCAA, not the middle of the SEC season.

And how many coaches have the secret to that success? Because the best way to insure that on a consistent basis is to have NBA talent on your roster on a consistent basis. And how many coaches are able to pull that off?

Either that or get a good draw and no coach has control over that.
