I know there has been a lot of back and forth on this kid, but he is going to sign with State. Brad Krayer just called and said a lot of the stuff we are seeing is just smoke. He is only taking these recruiting trips to have fun with the process. Apparently, he has known he is going to MSU the whole time.

Don't believe everything you read, especially about Pat.

But, I think you are wrong. Just my gut feeling.

Don't believe everything you hear, either.

i just will not believe it until he is on campus. not going to get my hopes up, or bash the guy.

and before you even say it, I know.

**Gloria Patterson, "MSU is not even recruiting Pat anymore. We told them a few weeks back that they were no longer in the picture so we could give them time to look at some other WR's. We owed that much to them. It is still down to OM, AL, USM, and Tenn is still somewhat in the picture, but not as much as those other three."

**Pat Patterson, "No, I am not even thinking about MSU."

Isnt there an in-home today with Pat? Do you stil have in-home visits if you arent recruiting him anymore? Or are we just "going through the motions" as stated in an earlier thread?

As bad *** as we are going to be with this new offense, Do you really believe he is not interested? He is showing interest if we are still bothering to talk to him, why wouldnt he want to be a star with russell? Don't underestimate how much Mullen and the new staff can/will/have swayed this kid back to state.

The funny thing to me is that he plays one of the least important positions on the field, because it's a position that's dependent on other players so much. With a few rare exceptions, your WRs really can't be game changers. Tony Burks is a good example. The guy was a good WR, but he didn't have anyone to get him the football, so he was fairly ineffective. Even if you're a great WR, the most you can really hope for is about 10 or so touches a game unless they line you up at other positions.

That's just my opinion, because I've seen great WRs do nothing, and I've seen average WRs do a whole lot simply because they had a good QB. Point being, it's nice to have good WRs, but I definitely don't think WR recruiting should get this much attention.

I'll start with your post...

Edited to say: Damn, I guess I need to get up earlier in the morning to be the first to pull off a zinger around here...

Any reference to play or players (with the exception of Norwood) while Croom was in charge of our offense is stupid.

Lets do something crazy here...

If Pat signs with State, DS and HD6 should ban bruiser and Diamond Reb. If he signs with anyone else ban dieharddawg.

and FWIW, i believe he will sign with Ole Miss. But this will always be in the minds of State and OM fans during recruiting battles: Jan 28, 2007 My visits are over - I'm tired. I have enjoyed travelling with my Mom, she deserved some trips, but I have been bleeding Red & Blue for a year now and I'm going to be a Rebel," said Elliott, fresh off his latest official visit to Mississippi State. Elliott, the 6-1, 200-pound speedster who is rated a 4-star prospect by Scout.com, has been the subject of constant and relentless rumors the past few weeks about him backing off of his commitment to Ole Miss. "None of them were true. Every time you guys (Scout) called me, I told you the same thing - I was committed to Ole Miss," he laughed. "I am very excited to be a Rebel. It's done - over.

he's proven, and players got to watch our offense for real, with our team and our players all last year.

I just don't get the 10,000 threads about this one player.

one more season, 2 tops. Russell, on the other hand, will be there the ENTIRE time with this recruiting class. Just a little different.

like Patterson (pretty sure I've seen him called that on this board)

In his mind, he'll play for three years and then off to the league.

Couldn't Nick Saban say the same thing about AJ McCarron? Couldn't Ole Miss say the same thing about Raymond Cotton (If he signs, which it's pretty obvious he will)?

I think the apparent overall quality of your class would be much more appealing than just one guy. Even recruits are smart enough to know that one guy may be a bust.

For some reason this thread is giving me deja vu all over again. Now where have I heard this before?

but to say he would likely start as many years with Snead as he would Russell is pretty damn stupid. If Snead has another good year next year, it wouldn't surprise me that he'd bolt for the NFL. Russell, on the other hand, will more than likely get redshirted (barring injury to Lee) and have 4 years after that to play in Mullen's system. You're right about him not proving anything on the next level like Snead has (and as a State fan, I will always be a cynic when it comes to high school quarterbacks performing for us), but to say PP will start for a junior qb that has NFL potential for the same amount of time as someone in his own class is kind of stupid.

think Tyler will be great. Whether that's wrong, baseless, speculation or all of the above, its all that matters on Feb. 4.

the only difference there is Russell and Patterson are both from MS and have become friends throughout the recruiting process. That, and pretty much all of the other top athletes in MS are headed to Starkville next year. Again, I think Patterson goes to OM, but you could make an argument for him still wanting to come to State. I was told 2 months ago that he'll go to the highest bidder. Just wish that would be us.
