PH barely lost last year(24-21 on the road) and this was a smart pick from local guy Robert Anderson, who is unbelievably good at picking SWVA football games. Curious to read about the game and see what happened to PC. It rained but they played on turf and if PH's field was anything like Salem's tonight they probably didn't suffer much for it. My uninformed guess would just be PH keyed on Thomas all game and didn't let him do anything.
I saw the game as an old-fashioned defensive struggle. Both teams didn't play up to their potential but that was due to excellent defensive play on both sides.
PHs defensive front did a great job slowing down the Pulaski running attack, and their passing defense was solid. PHs linebacker #20 seemed to shoot the gaps at the right time to stop Pulaski's runners. Except for the one TD drive for Pulaski in the 3rd, PH contained Pulaski's attack.
On the other side, Pulaski's defense did an excellent job keeping PH in front of them. With the exception of two big scoring plays, their defense kept PHs skill players in check.
My take away from this game was that if both teams play defense like this as the season goes along and especially on the road in the playoffs, both will be just fine. If PH has to go on the road to NOVA or Richmond and plays defense as well as they played on Friday, they should come home with a win. I would say the same applies to Pulaski as well.
Neither defense should walk away from this game with their heads hung low.
