Looks like a 34-22 F.
Congrats to Providence. QB made a lot of great plays on 3rd and long.
BR has a lot of question marks on both sides of the ball.

When you go to the 8a final you get the high rating until you dont deserve it anymore. Rice has really young offense. The rb shaw is a player. There defense has good individual player not sure how good they are as a team defensively. Maybe once Warren gets back that will change. PC is good all around young qb and rb are players. But depth could be a problem with players going both ways hopefully they dont get hit with the injury bug.
Unless Rita can pull the big upset tomorrow, looking like the Blue/Green will split 2-2.

PC looked good. BR looked really bad. Not sold on QB decision. Not entirely sure that Warren changes much in week 5.
Marist will definitely be another tough game for Rice. Think a QB change is in order, whether it’s Lausch or Smyth.

Was surprised by the preseason qb decision for rice as smyth was really good on lower levels. However there line play and lack of playmaking receivers is there problem.
Im pretty sure Smyth quit when he didn't get picked as the starter. Such a bad decision - he probably would be starting this next game. Somers is young he had a bad game - he'll bounce back
I was gonna ask but I didn’t want to throw him under the bus. I heard that as well.
That's too bad.my only question is if the competition was that close why not rotate and let them win it in the game like bean did vs marist 2 yrs ago.
Even if Colin was on the team, he would not have had the opportunity to play qb. He is pro-style qb and the oline couldn't give him time to throw so team moved toward rpo. Smyth told his type of play did not work for them this year. When the decision to go with Sumers was made, Smyth was told he would not be the backup qb and would not have an option of playing the position even if things went badly. He was told to move to tight end.
You have to be a bit patient with Somers. He’s a great athlete, good baseball player too, but unlike some of these QBs that we see now that have been playing the position for 9 years and been with personal trainers and attending QB clinics, Ben has been a QB for 2 years....he went to St. Christina and played WR and RB because his QB was Justin Lynch (Brian Johnson QB of SR was on that team too as a RB). He’s really still learning this position. He’s way undersized and is going to have some growing pains this year, but he’ll improve as they move forward because he’s a smart and athletic player, just needs time.
What about the soph Lausch (sp?)? Heard he was the real deal at QB. Looks like a great ath on defense. He will only play qb for 1 year?
Hard to tell on BRtv but Oline looked like they had a lot of trouble. Ben took some big hits. Shaw has a breakout game as playmaker. WRs looked athletic. Looking forward to see how they bounce back with the Redhawks coming to town this wk
I’ve seen him play a lot in grade school and I was surprised he wasn’t their choice and Somers as a DB but I have zero idea went on at practices but he is a more natural QB IMO.
Somers won the job that included Smyth, Matejko and Lausch. From what I heard, it was obvious to everyone.
He had a tough game last night but showed what he could do in week 1 in his first start vs an athletic Hillcrest team. The difference last night was Provi’s front line and BR’s inability to stretch the field thus far. As it stands now, they have one game breaker in Shaw at RB.
I doubt any changes will be made right now. Lausch has settled in nicely at free safety. BR is replacing 10 other starters on O too - not just the QB. It will take some time for them to gel. Unfortunately, the defense isn’t where it should be right now with the talent on that side of the ball. The hope was they would carry the team through the first few weeks.
A lot to work on...thankfully, we are just entering week 4. But here comes Marist, JCA and Loyola.

I agree. I thought defense giving what they did against Hillcrest was due to Irving being a playmaker but it looks like they have a lot of figuring out to do.
How big is Somers? He seems to be tough but not sure if he has the frame to be taking the hits that he did last night. Way too early to jump ship on him, though. He won the job. Now he has to develop.

Somers is about 5’10 160. He’s mobile and can throw on the run with accuracy. I think you’ll definitely see a lot of touches (20+) for Shaw moving forward and some play action roll outs to get Somers out of the pocket to play to his strength. Have to take what defense gives you with the OL in flux.
Might they consider their DL playing both ways? I know Roche did as a Freshman and Soph...maybe Jefferson at Guard....Warren at 300 plus might not be able to last the full game on both OL/DL but maybe at certain situations....
When Warren returns, I believe they will move one of the current DL over to OL. I don’t think they want anyone to go both ways but surely everything will be on the table if not corrected sooner than later.
Br dline is good but I think they are out of shape. I was expecting that br might take over late in the game because 2 of pc lineman 57, 54 go both ways. The opposite happened pc was able to run the ball late because they wore down br.

I don’t think the DL is out of shape. They didn’t blow them off the ball. Came down to not getting off the field on 3rd down. Conway had a lot of back breaking plays for BR
Thought Conway was pretty good, as well as their back. PC defense was very good. PC is a good team. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of weeks for both teams.
He’s a great athlete, no doubt. I didn’t realize that Smith quit the team. Wish he would have stayed on at TE. Would have given Somers another option to throw to. Smith is a big kid and thus, would have made for a big target. OL for Rice has to come together to give Somers more time. Going to be a challenge with the schedule ramping up now.
Didn’t realize how stacked that Christina team was. Mercy. Sounds like Christina, Redeemer, Fisher and Barnabas are the powers these days. Amazing to see how much talent these schools have seeing as they are the main channel feeding into Rice, Marist, Rita and MC.
