A school shouldn't buy able to buy their punishment (in an over the table sort of way). Rich schools can just say, sure, its worth $1.5 mil. Tennessee needs to get hit in a more competitive way. Reduction of scholarships. Player(s) in question suspended for a year and 9 games, etc.

The school is actually going to save $1.5 M from this. Assuming they don't just give a $1.5M merit raise at the end of the season to make it nothing more than a shell game. Other coaches have lost their jobs and become untouchable for other schools for lying to the NCAA. The OK State WR had to miss an entire season for it, and Renardo Sidney has to miss a season plus 9 games. Yet for Tennessee, there's no punishment.

Just saw part of the press conference, Pearl choking back tears just makes me think of Jimmy Swaggart and his "I have sinned" confession from the pulpit after the naked chinese fire drill with a hooker!

How about limit some schollys? $$ and limit off-campus recruiting ain't gonna cut it. This crying jackwagon needs to be Karma's *****, plain & simple.

This is just stuff UT is doing voluntarily (see what I did there) in hopes that the NCAA may find this an acceptable punishment. Additionally, they're attempting to show responsibility and integrity to be on the good side of any NCAA people who may believe the school needs stiffer punishment.

This was the schools attempt to stave off further penalty by NCAA. I suspect NCAA will have some further sanctions. If not, then I agree with you.....

Yeah i agree they shouldnt be able to buy their punishment, but hurting the recruits that were on the other end of those calls isnt the answer.
...i get the suggested length of suspension you list, but just dont think it is the recruit's fault when too many calls are made.
