The guy can flat out coach and seems to get the best out of his players, seems like he runs good sets and inbounds under the basket as well.
This is no secret. He has always been an elite coach. Going back to his UT days and before. However, he has taken Auburn to a level he even didn't reach at UT.

Sounds crazy. great season and team this year for Auburn though. Maybe they can do that and meet in the SECT finals against Florida and decide who's best in conference at the end ?

Hands down, the coach of the year right now. I live in Opelika(basically Auburn). He has turned Auburn into a Rabid Basketball school.

I’m not even sure why people around here have hated on him so much in the past. Yeah, he had a recruit over for a BBQ when he wasn’t supposed to and lied about it. That’s such a silly, minor thing compared to the stuff going on these days. The fact he seemingly wasn’t even looked at as a replacement for Cal is crazy.
Pearl would have won a title and went to 2 final fours here at least. He's 64 so idk how long he would be here so that's why I onlu project 2 final fours.
pearl was high on my wish list to replace cal but i don’t know if even pearl could ‘ve had the success that pope has this year, having to put a team together starting from absolute zero.

I wanted Pearl, he was like 3rd on my list... i think we would be final 4 contender In year one.... but Barnhart sucks and whoever else had a holier than thoug approach that didn't throw the bank at Nate Oats. I like Pope but I refuse not to acknowledge she was like 8th to 10th on what should have been the list but instead was 3rd for Mitch Barnhart who has been terrible at big hires here. 50% hit rate. We would have never even hired pope if he hadn't played here.... this is Kentucky !!! Not Louisville. Anyway I hope Pope works out cause that's who we got...

He would have already won a title at UT if we hadn’t let him go. Personally I wished the administration had backed him up, taken the punishment, and kept him. Looking back the violation was so petty.

I think when we was looking for a new coach Mitch did not even try to go after Pearl, I like Pope hope in a couple years we are at the top again.

What has been said is that the President and BOT put Pearl on the no contact list.
I'm not one to throw praises at Pearl, but I watched the Auburn/Alabama game and Auburn dismantled a pretty good Alabama team. Auburn isn't perfect, they do some idiotic things, and they're a little too thuggish for me, but they can play and their level of preparation is generally high. As much as it pains me to say it, Pearl is a better coach than he was at UT, and he was pretty decent at UT.

Absolutely. And there would NOT be issues with guys not busting it on both ends of the court. Talent or no talent, Pearl won't put up with it. He'll be up your grill in front of the whole crowd if you think otherwise.
You guys are crazy. I am very bullish on Pope after this year, but you cannot compare what Pearl is doing in a historically strong SEC. It ain’t even close right now.
