if the board was aware that students "... are rioting downtown right now?"

in what you want to be true that you can't see the big picture. paterno knew what was going on. The students are like all kids their age, dumbasses...they haven't yet had kids and worked in the real world. That's why you have a board of Trustees that can set aside emotion and make rational decisions.

After reading some of that, I'mshockedat how morally blind they are.<div>
</div><div>The Kool Aid in State College makes the Auburn "All-In" -ade look like tap water.</div><div>
</div><div>When Paterno passes, they will leave his mummified corpse unburied at the midfield stripe. They'll probably have a "JoePa" memorial before and after every game...</div>

really makes me hate humanity.. The fact that they really do not get how this is bigger than a football game is beyond me.

than how it affected so many small children...which is what these victims were.

...after watching a bunch of nutcases riot in behalf of a coach that worked a cover up for a pedophile, we no longer have to fear losing Dan Mullen to Penn State.

their "god" paterno made an absolutely disgusting choice and allowed a sick animal to continue to prey on young innocent children; but instead, they are going nuts and calling for the heads of the board of trustees who actually are the only ones with their head on straight at this point. It appears the mob mentality is being taken to a new level.

It bothered me so much that Paterno was the head line over Sandusky and the kids who's futures he tarnished. Even though the man should have done more, the amount of air time he's even getting about the situation is beyond me. No matter how disturbing this situation gets, nothing about how it's handled or even viewed sits well with me at all.

A few reporters, who I really, really hope are from the student paper kept going after the trustees' "rush to judgement" etc. etc. I'm thinking this might be one of the biggest scandals in American university history, and you're worried about the "legacy" of a coach who was at best morally complicit in some really, really heinous ****.

And news like this breaks... I promise you I would be the first to usher him out of town. Those boards make me sick.

They had to fire him. If they hadn't, they'd have endorsed the way he handled the situation. As bad is this is for the university, it would have been a lot worse if they had let him "retire" at the end of the season.

How many of them saw no problem with him finishing the season and how some even convinced themselves that he was somehow a victim. Amazing.

Upon more reflection, the more this is made a headline about Paterno, the more he is punished. Who, for they who know about the story, can look at him and not be disgusted that he cared more about his coaching job than what that evil devil was doing to those little boys. The longer he's in the spotlight about this, the deeper the punishment. No one of the current generations will ever be able to look at his likeness again without being disgusted. Had it all been about Sandusky, I'm not sure that's the case.

I've been shaking my head at this last paragraph that's been running in an AP story following Paterno's status today.<div>

From a poster:

Herby just said "the board could have taken the easy way out and let
Paterno retire after the season but stepped up and made the correct but
difficult decision." Bull .. this was the easy way out for the board
and they took it ... this is the first i have been ashamed of my
university.

...wow. So the whole anal rape in shower didn't make you ashamed...right. Makes sense.

is when I remember that Paterno wasn't the only one that knew about the situation and he (at the very least) reported it to his superiors. There were a few janitors who saw Sandusky actually raping the children and didn't say anything about it till now, and then there was the assistant who told Paterno who should have been one of the first ones along with the janitors to have called the police.<div>
</div><div>No way is Paterno's hands clean from this, but just because of his position...I really don't agree that he should be the main headline of this story.</div>
