Zain would be a good comparable depending on how many high AAs at 149 returned in 2016. He took an interleaving RS and bumped up a weight.

Both Jason Tsirtsis and Brandon Sorenson likely would have been initially ranked ahead of Zain at 149 since they were prior year returning high All Americans.

Unfortunately, Flo ranking archives don't actually show anything but the most recent update, which Pyles was responsible for at the start of 2016.

Which is...

an arbitrary and capricious formulaic algorithm, loosely based in reality, that provides plenty of opportunities for social media discussions about early season "upsets" and exceptional true freshmen progress up the rankings, while subtly acting as rage bait due to its inherent quirks--all of which tending to increase social media engagement?

If so, that's their prerogative. It makes perfect business sense to me.

I watched Root vs Watters from UNC dual. Didn't see any obvious getting dinged up. Maybe you can point me to the period and time remaining.

Welsh is a returning finalist. McEnelly is not. Sinclair is not. None of them have beaten Welsh. Freshman in their first varsity season should have to beat an undefeated returning finalist before being ranked ahead of him if Flo is applying their algorithm consistently.

Speaking of Welsh, the ND State kid (McMonigle) he teched won AA states in 2024. He was from my hometown of Williamsburg but wrestled for Huntingdon. He beat Garrett Garcia from S. Columbia at 189.

The algorithm allows consideration of exhibition-event results, which are not supposed to “count”, “because they exist”. Yet, the algorithm does not allow consideration of freestyle results, which also exist. The algorithm is arbitrary, and it produces a poor result early in the season.

They can say that they know it’s a poor algorithm for the early season, sure. And we can say that we agree that it’s a poor algorithm for the early season.

Flo is not making a good defense of a bad algorithm when they say “the algorithm forces me”. They will not succeed in stopping criticism just by saying “I know I am terrible” (in the early season). If somebody is terrible, then he might have to hear other people say that he is terrible. Do the crime, do the time.

Luke had trouble opening up defense-minded wrestlers last year, too. His eight 1-td matches were 2nd only to Bartlett.

A true Soph, he and the coaches will figure it out.

I don't have any concerns about Luke & think he's doing great! Provo & Witt were huge for 125 & Luke got the job done. He's not the biggest guy at 125, but he's beating the biggest guys, except Nate, who he's been rolling with for years. Nate's a big kid who knew all Luke's moves.

I still expect to see Luke in the finals at the big show. Worst case scenario he takes 3rd. Either way, he'll add some bonus points along the way & be a valuable contributor to our overall total. Luke's money in the bank!

The Gators, home of Dale Budd. Port has fell on hard times since the glass factory. My brother lived on Francis St for many years. My son's best friend and wrestling partner wrestled Dirk in the finals his Sr year. The year before that if my son would have won more match he had Dirk next.

Their football team the last few years was a blast to watch. I tried to get up there to watch a game in person since its only a half hour from our camp. Just couldn't make it work though.
