Would you like Penn State and Pitt play each other every year?

I don’t want to since it would likely ruin any chance of playing other good non conference teams.

On the other hand, since we are subjected to an absurdly bad non-conference schedule anyway, might as well. I would take Pitt instead of FIU, Villanova, Delaware, Temple, Nevada….. the 3 game slate of those is brutal.

Which is the problem and why some people want to hire Smith.
You can have fond memories of the past while embracing change and a different tomorrow
Playing Pitt only benefits Pitt
Not about benefitting, I don't watch games worrying about how much $ we are making or publicity a team gets. If you aren't old enough to remember the importance of these games you wouldn't understand, lots of PSU fans don't know any better and think PSU has always been a Big 10 team. I think Smith is a good ast coach, hope they keep him on staff, but don't want him at the helm. I've wanted Campbell from day one, shocked he hasn't gotten more run.

Penn State should play Temple and Pitt every year on a home and and away basis. Work out each team’s revenue (Neither Pitt nor Temple come close to
Sell-outs without Penn State.*)
There should be a ripple effect for Temple and Pitt attendance to other games. This helps the school’s and state and local tax revenue.
* Yes there are exceptions like n.d.

I'm not talking money
Playing Pitt doesn't benefit us on the field--it doesn't help our resume and dramatically helps their program if they beat us.
I'm 50--I'm plenty old enough--I just don't live in the past
Think Penn State has always been a Big Ten team? lol

Playing and beating Pitt far more enjoyable and beneficial than the garbage they normally play in the OOC, so a guy like you living in the moment must be all about the "Land Grant Trophy" . No reason PSU can't play the Pitt's, WVU's, Syracuse's etc.. on a rotating basis.

Enjoyable is fine but it's not about "is playing Pitt better than Nova"--duh, of course it is. What most of us want real OOC game not Pitt
I don't care about the Land Grant trophy either but there's no reason to play any of those 3 teams.

Its a no brainer. They think they are hurting Pitt, but they are also hurting themselves. If it benefits Pitt a little more, so be it. When both programs are strong, Penn State is at its best. Really no excuse with the OOC schedule we have been playing, a home and home with a middle of the road ACC team is perfect, and that it has a little juice is great.

Just seeing PSU-Pitt Unis on same field gets my juices flowing.

Pitt will only schedule if it's home and home series. Penn State uses non conference games for the money and gets as many home games as possible.
At least offer PITT a series of three year deals: two @ PSU & one @ PITT during each series If they say no, then forget about it for good.
Honestly, it stinks watching all these rivalry games on the last weekend in November and remembering that PSU vs PITT should be in the mix.
Rivalries are good for the sport.

That's what Penn State tried but Pitt refused.

What is the benefit to us?

I'd take a 3 to 1 but Pitt won't do anything other than 1 to 1 which means the series is dead.

If you want to play us every year get the B1G to extend you an invitation then we’ll talk. As it is the rivalry is gone and there is no way the conference will let us play you at the end of the season like the good old days. Having said that, I support the idea of playing Pitt as an OOC game. Beats these terrible games like Delaware and FIU.

Even if we played them it wouldn’t be this weekend. We can forget the traditional Thanksgiving weekend game against Pitt. It’s not gonna happen as long as we’re in the Big.

So far 62% dont want to play them yearly and I'd wager the percent is higher for those that do want to play them on this board than if you just asked Penn State fans in general.

Except when Pitt required all games to be played in Pittsburgh. From 1903 to 1977, we only payed in State College 8 times. It evened out after that. But they owe us a few.

It was actually, in part, Penn State that wanted that. Back in those earlier days teams would split the gate receipts evenly so it made sense to play most games in Pittsburgh. It wasn't until Penn State had a equal or larger stadium that it became more home-home.

In the 70s, teams moved away from splitting gate receipts to guaranteed money. it was one of the things that doomed the all sports Eastern conference. Pitt wanted to continue sharing gate receipts where as PSU wanted fixed payouts regardless of receipts.

This is why when you look up the PSU - Penn series, all the games were played in Franklin Field.

Well, we beat them three straight, did that shut them up? Nothing will shut them up, so why bother playing them?
They’re kinda like the gnats that fly around your eyes. I just love beating them. I had a principal who was a huge fan. He’d say HTP to me all the time. Each time we beat them I put the score on a decorated blue and white poster board and placed it in the hallway near my classroom. I changed my email signature to WE ARE for each email I had to send him.

The garbage doesn't demand a 1-1 home and home. I'm sure we would give Pitt the same deal as a team like Florida International if they would take it.

True, but then PSU scheduled a non con game at Temple and at Syracuse over the next 3 years so that kind of undermines that argument somewhat.
