I do think Christian Carroll is a thing at 285 but yeah I had more bearish expectations on Cole this year (thought he was very draw dependent to AA)
I'm with you. Curious and almost expect Cochran to get a shot next week in one of the duals. But also, losing to Mirasola a couple times might mean that it may not fix matters. But, might be worth a shot. In Mirasola's defense, he certainly didn't lose to scrubs in the last two duals.

This feels different: I don't even think P.J. is what you would call a "pinner": He's just so absurdly good that if he wants to pin them, he just pins them. It's shocking how talented this kid is. "#8" in the nation 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂. Now THAT is hilarious 😂
I am with you. When PJ physically manhandled a 6th year senior earlier in a match, I too was like "whoa, this kid is different." If he is an animal now, what is he going to be like when he gets his man muscles? Scary stuff if you have to face him.

If nobody else will......I will give a shout out to FLO. The camera work was better than Ironman. They followed the wrestlers all over the mat and as they walked off to be congratulated. Clear picture. Good Sound. Good announcers. Now THAT is what I pay for. Thanks FLO. Just so you know....FLO hasn't paid me a dime.......YET :)

Ok ok I know we won 40-7 and I shouldn't be complaining, but I'm going to anyway lol. There are 2 things that are bothering me.

1. Rocco's lack of offense is concerning. If he can't score on Neithenback how is he ever going to score on Ferrari/McEnelly? He made it to the finals in 2024 with three straight OT wins. I hope he doesn't expect that to happen again.

2. I really think Cochran should get a shot at HWT. He lost to Cole at the Black Knight after leading the majority of the match. It's becoming very clear where Cole's ceiling is so why not give Cochran a shot?
I know. And I’m guessing Cael is panicking and scrambling for answers 😉

If Ono knows a Sumo wrestler, does he have enough descent time to go from 485# to 285# by January? 😁

Wife and I followed Penn State all across the country starting in 1969. There were some pretty lean years where people at other schools were consoling us. I know what hard times are like so I just smile when people panic if we don't have 10 National champs who pin their way through nationals. Cole lost to 2 good wrestlers, if my memory serves me, I think Taylor gave Kerk a decent match.

So Cole having trouble finishing is an actual real thing that doesn't have to do with being out weighed. This time he was at 229 while Carroll was at 231 and the exact same issue again. Can't finish anything and gets taken down because of it. How do you fix that? I don't know
I think he looks like he is just taking a shot and not following up with it... next step, etc. Of course there is a lot of weight coming down on top of him

Seemed like the altitude played a factor in Cole’s match. If this match is wrestled a normal altitude , maybe there’s a different result. He appeared to not have that extra gear needed to finish some of the shots he started.

Do you think Ferrari can score on Rocco? I can think of two national champs who failed to get a TD against him.

Welsh vs Ferrari is destined to go 1-1 into OT. Rocco wins nearly all of those.

Problem with Cole is he gets in trouble after he's on the leg , if byers says heavy hips get ready for the counter takedown.

My thoughts exactly. Especially when Ferrari's strategy against good opponents is to wrestle from one knee and back up to the edge of the mat.

It'll be the kind of match that makes Will Lewan wish he had a 7th season of eligibility.

That was a really slick pin by Marcus. I have never seen that move before. Marcus continues to impress.
Just watched both Blaze and Duke on YouTube. Both wrestled ranked kids and came away with pins. Their maturity, patience, and how sound they are technically "might" be unmatched as far as PSU freshman EVER. What I really enjoy, however, is when they win, their reactions are both the same; "another day at the office." No "look at me" celebrations ala Ferrari. I'm not sure we have ever seen two more mature, gifted, talented kids this young in the program, which certainly says A LOT.

The Ferrari celebration in the Iowa vs ISU dual was telling. Team needs bonus from him to have a chance to win and he’s celebrating his 2-1 dub over a much lower ranked foe.

Nate can wrestle 4 matches and still preserve his red shirt Right ? Enough time to get Aaron N back in January hopefully
If they are testing the waters with Desmond, AN might be more serious than anticipated. Last week Byers mentioned him coming back. I don’t believe he mentioned him this week at all. Des would give Mendez a fight.

This was a lot like Nico's takedown vs Gilman in the NCAA finals -- in that it's a product of the guys doing so much play wrestling in the room. Get into a position, try stuff out, see what works. Even if that's not something he tried in the room, that training improves situational awareness.

This doesn't happen from hours upon hours upon hours of drilling single-leg takedowns in a college room. This happens after you've spent those hours in high school, and now you work through whatever positions you end up in.

While early results have been good and he may ve PSU's best option, he wouldn't be competitive with Mendez. Mendez is at a world class level right now.
