Do you get 4 or 5 events without burning shirt. ?Agreed ... though we do have others available to eat up matches before a Nagao-Davis decision needs to be made: Nasdeo, Cunningham, plus Garcia up 1 weight.
Next 2 matches are Stanford + ND State at Journeyman. Since that's 1 competition date, I'd expect Desmond to get both (including #15 Consiglio). He'd then have 2 dates remaining. Presumably the Scuffle would be another.
After that, the B10 duals schedule starts 1/10 vs Rutger (#5 Oliveri). That's the first real gate. If Davis starts, that's it for Nagao. If anybody else starts, then we're still keeping the seat warm.
5 competition dates. I think Nate may be the best all around wrestler of the 3, but at 141 I have a hard time seeing him outperforming those two this year.Do you get 4 or 5 events without burning shirt. ?
I was thinking it was 4. I might be confusing football.
A question on what is done among the the team and coaches. If Nagao and Davis are getting beat by Desmond for the 141 spot and he wants to wrestle this year, do coaches allow him to compete??
With easy transfer rules, I would think these decisions are different than years ago .
There's a big difference between winning a wrestle-off in the room vs winning multiple matches in one weekend at B10s and again at NCAAs. We have 2 returning AAs already at the weight who aren't significantly undersized. The only reason to burn Desmond's shirt now is if he is clearly superior AND the coaches determine shirting now would make him sit on the bench next year. The second part of that equation is realistic, especially with Ono back.Do you get 4 or 5 events without burning shirt. ?

No, they already decided that Gabe Arnold can take care of Levi.Seriously. Really hope nobody is looking at a regular decision win vs an 0-5 opponent and extrapolating that to Mendez.
I mean, imagine the howls from here if HR claimed Jordan Williams would bump up 2 weights and give Levi a fight.
No weight classes in the jungleNo, they already decided that Gabe Arnold can take care of Levi.
Cool Interview. I know this may not be popular....but I like Gabe Arnold. I like his attitude and, after all he has been through, I will root for him. His decision to stay at Iowa has just increased my respect for him.....As long as he is not wrestling a PSU or former PSU guy or local Pennsylvania guy that isNo weight classes in the jungle

and its mostly dumb both wrestling and football!I swear Seyko has handles on here to give bad takes to test out dumb **** for his shows
In his case:I like giving Corby the dirt as much as the next guy, but mentioning him in the same sentence as those two is just cold hearted.

Seyko is on the record that a then incoming freshman Connor was a potential 4xer. That said I agree with your assessment. There is still a significant gap with Josh. Significant.so seyko thinks Marisola has chance against Barr I say no way!

Meanwhile JST would burn yet another pseudonym!Imagine if Blaze sticks Ayala in a similar fashion as the Wyoming kid. I'd be banned from HR in less than a minute.
He literally flips directions more than the best of politicians….not to mention being full of it just like politicians.and its mostly dumb both wrestling and football!
I thought Turk was a lone wolf.Ironbird, MSU and Corby.

I'd rather keep him in RS. It was great to see him get a match and he may get another one or two, but there's a problem with leaving 125 behind for good. The thought was that Luke was never going to be a career 125, so if Luke goes up to 133 with Blaze and Ono already lurking, Desmond is going to have a hard time getting a spot at 133 or 141 or several years. We may need him at 125 to get to Sidun if Luke can't hold the weight. If he can't hold that weight either, next year at 125 may be a problem again with 4 guys at least high AA (and three world champion caliber wrestlers) for two spots at 133 and 141 next year.Desmond creates a very interesting dilemma.
If one is being honest, assuming he can get to equal to or greater than Nagao, burning his shirt may make a lot of sense.
I am not a fan of undersized guys wrestling, it is usually limiting once you got top 4 type guys who can just horse you around. Mendez will be quite a challenge, due to ability alone, least a 5-10 lbs of walking around weight delta.
Positives
- I love what I see from this kid. He is wrestling well above true freshman expectations.
- Nagao is showing some of the same sloppy and a bit reckless tendencies as 2 years ago. He has it in him to be anywhere from a semi finalist to a blood round guy if he gets too 'creative'.
- when you think about it, redshirting Desmond next year may make more sense than this year. Unless Lilledahl or Blaze shirts, where does he fit with Ono going and we also have Davis in the mix?
Negatives
- he is a true freshman and will only get better waiting
- if he goes 141, then going back to 125 is a distant memory, even 133 next year might be in the rear view mirror. Ono likely drives him to 141 again next year anyway.
- Even with some weight gain, he will be naturally undersized at least for this season. It will likely bite him against some of the best
Net-net - I am pretty excited by the possibility. I would go with him from here forward, let him wrestleoff vs Nagao once he comes back. I have a sneaking suspicion he could win the slot. Then red shirt him next year.
Yeah.... felt like Desmond was in deep on a couple of takedowns Saturday and was not strong enough to finish it. Still he was the superior wrestler and found a way to win but he definitely struggled a little with the size and strength. Could he put that strength on by March? I think enough to be competitive and possibly be a low AA. But TBH...Desmond may be better than that and that would be unfair to him. I keep using a combo of Naseado and others until Nagao is back and let Desmond grow into 141 and give him a legit shot to compete. Still I dont see him in the room every day - So I trust what Cael, Cody and Casey come up with!I'd rather keep him in RS. If he is going to wrestle 141 get the kid a Kasak cow.Yeah.... felt like Desmond was in deep on a couple of takedowns Saturday and was not strong enough to finish it. lol.... if it works for Desmond like it did for Levi... PSU boosters should already be at the Kasak farm with credit card in hand.... Whats in you wallet LOLIf he is going to wrestle 141 get the kid a Kasak cow.
With you. I’ve heard he suffered at least one bout of severe depression, not the “having a bad day” variety. If it’s more than one, maybe all that bluster with Carter was a defense mechanism against persistent inner demons. Speculative, I know, but I do like seeing a smile on the kid’s face. Also fine with any future Lion opponent wiping it off after seven or so minutes.Cool Interview. I know this may not be popular....but I like Gabe Arnold. Pretty sure Josh Barr got the Kasak cow. It wouldn't surprise to find out Levi had a Kasak cow also.lol.... if it works for Desmond like it did for Levi... PSU boosters should already be at the Kasak farm with credit card in hand.... Whats in you wallet LOL
