I know with the Nutt situation that his has taken a back seat or maybe not even been discussed, but this Penn State thing spells the end for Joe Pa. Even the Lions come calling, does Dan listen this time?

And I don't think he'll listen. Dan seems to have developed emotional ties with MSU so I think, and hope, he's here for a long time. Also, if you look at the coach's salaries, Penn State doesn't pay all that much, and I think we can and will match and exceed anything, or anyone else, they can come up with. So it won't be a matter of money if he listens. It would certainly be an attractive job. Maybe Saban? He's from that part of the country.<div>
</div><div>But what do I know? Hopefully it's all true.</div>

It's just that Joe Pa limits his base salary to $500K, I believe. Or at least, did for a while.

but I think we could match or exceed what we need to do, if we (the school administration, not individual fans) think it's worth it and appropriate.

My parents are both Penn State Alum and were in Happy Valley earlier this year for the Iowa game. Supposedly Urban Meyer had been in State College since Tuesday (through Saturday) of that week and he was not an analyst covering that game. Take it for what it's worth.

TBone,
Two or three years ago, I would've agreed with you but after the Rich Rod experiment at Michigan with the spread offense, I just don't think Penn State would go that route at this point. Also, being a storied tradition rich program like Penn State, I think they would go for a much bigger name that's more established in the coaching profession.

The same spread that led the Big 10 in total offense and finished 8th in the nation last year? <div>
</div><div>RichRod's offense wasn't the problem there, but you can't win a lot of games if you finish 110th in the nation in defense and give up over 35 points a game.</div>

this thing will consume joepa and the next coach. PSU will be in legal hell for the next 10 years. @## may jump to another school, but it won't be PSU.

i don't think the issues will carry over to the next staff. it's clear penn st is clearly out the individuals responsible, they'll make good hires and move forward without the future staffs dealing with this stuff. the university might take some character hits, but i don't think anyone is going to associate the pastpresident/AD/staff with the new president/AD/staff.

..and hire from within the Joe Pa family. However... this scandal is so distasteful they might have to cut ties with anybody who's been a coach there for the last decade. Them contacting Mullen wouldn't surprise me.

I don't think any coach is going to want to jump into the middle of that mess. This is going to leave a disgusting legacy behind for everyone at Penn State. I heard some folks on ESPN talking about the situation being the ugliest in college football history. After reading a little bit of the information that's out there, I have to agree. We're not talking about covering up tattoos, cars, and dirty recruiting, like at Ohio State. This is a much larger issue, and it's not going away.

i just don't think it'll carry over to a new staff and admin. no one involved in this is gonna be around. the individuals involved are the ones that will have to deal with the questions and legal ramifications, not the new staff. tarnishing of the university's name will go away awfully quickly with a purging of those in the know. and the new staff and admin aren't going to deal with lingering ncaa penalties that impact their abilities to build the program.

no doubt the memory of this won't go away for awhile, i just don't think it's gonna carry over for football program building purposes so long as the university cleanses itself of those who knew or should have known.

MadDawg, I'm not sure if everyone knows what you're talking about, but I do and can only say 'what goes around ...'

claims Urban just bought a home in Boalsburg, PA, which is pretty much State College.

Not sure how much he really knows, but he's been a season ticket holder as long as I've known him.

I think the whole damn school shouldreceive punishment from the NCAA. They hired them. They let Joe stay for ever. The Athletic department needs to receivethe death penalty. That is some bad stuff they let go on.</p>
