What exactly has he proven? Not a damn thing. Once he fails miserably next year that recruiting luster is going to wear off.

It's really hard to win with freshmen, even/especially with highly rated dudes who have always been stars. Getting them to buy-in, to be willing to play defense when they never had to, to willingly share the ball when they never had to, to develop mental and physical toughness when they've been able to get by on having superior physical talent since they were 6 years old.....all of it. It is hard, and it takes a real coach. Either Penny is that and will be up to the task, or he'll fail. Likely miserably. One way or the other, we'll find out soon enough.

If they land Hampton it would take a child to lose in that conference with that team. Automatic one seed and at least an elite eight basically a lock.

It's one thing to land all the talent. It's another to coach them. He will fail and fail miserably. Book it!

I’m going to laugh my *** off when he takes what he’s done in two seasons and bolts for a better job first chance he gets.

Penny will suck and we don't need the overrated Jaden McDaniels.

Aren't those the two trendy "helps us sleep easier at night" picks right now for BBN this week?

I dont understand what his pitch is. Yeah, he played in the NBA and guys like Cal didnt. Big deal. Doesnt mean he can get you there. He knew how to get himself there. Cal has gotten 50 guys there despite never playing a minute of pro ball. One knows how to get themselves to the NBA. One knows how to get YOU to the NBA.

With all the talent that Penny has coming in I highly doubt that he fails miserably. Why all this hate on the guy are you afraid of him or what ? If you weren't you people on here would not have to keep saying over and over how bad he is and how he is going to fail. Every coach sucks, every other team sucks, every player that doesn't sign with the Cats is either over rated or we didn't want him anyway. This board could use a little common sence. .

He will have plenty of talent and a cake schedule plus a very, very weak conference. Should have a gaudy win-loss record come tourney time.
The tourney is a whole other animal. We shall see.

He grew up in Memphis, he played at Memphis, Memphis is his home, he coached high school in Memphis, he has all kinds of connections with Memphis AAU scene. Why in the world would you think he would bail at the first opportunity ? Do you think that, or are you hoping that, because you are scared of him ?

Who among us would not have got out and used our resume to recruit a great roster, we would have been ecstatic to have had Wiseman and we did have Jeffries for a little while and the rest of those guys he has recruited, everyone thats not from this state dont rever the Cats the way we do. I hope he does well, I know that he was presented with a golden opportunity and cashed in on it, Memphis will never be on the level of UK except maybe for 1 or 2 seasons. They had to strike while the iron was hot, if they ha kept their previous coach, they wouldn't have gotten most of those guys if any, Wiseman and Jeffires would have been in a Kentucky uniform, hate it as much as any, but no reason to trash the man when any of us would have done the same.

Arrogance such as this is what makes us look stupid to other fan bases

So you don’t think he’d take a better job if it came along because he’s from Memphis? You think the AAC is all that? And you’ve got a funny damn name to be talking arrogance right?

If Hampton joins that class they could win it all with me coaching
No, they couldn't - and I'm saying that even accepting that you would be one heck of a coach, my friend. Unless they still have separate college freshmen teams playing their own season, you aren't winning any championship with Memphis next season.

A No. 1 recruiting class without any solid upper classmen = "wow, we're going to be tough in a year or two" (which you later realize was wrong because most of those recruits won't be there in a year or two).

Penny can EAD. All he's proven he can do so far is steal recruits from teams that could win with them.

Penny will be like a fart in the wind in 2 years.
He may well be, but Memphis has assembled some pretty good talent for this year,no matter if we like it or don't like it. They could be a team that folks will have to deal with.

Not many. Too bad for us we play in reality and not hypotheticals
I wouldn't want to play in that conference. You can count on this though, when Memphis is having a good year they will laud and reward Penny. UK is punished for having a good year in the "weak" SEC

Doc young kids have to be coached. I believe that’s were Penny will not succeed. Someone has to teach them to play as a team. I know Cal can just not sure Penny can.

That is true but what experience does Penny have coming back? K couldn't get to FF with the greatest player ever and 2 giants :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Oh I think Penny will be a very average coach at best,I don't think he will last more than 3 or 4 years even at the Memphis level but the players he has this season will accidentally win several games.
