Wouldn't he have known that if he wasn't going to be academically eligible to play at Louisville that he wasn't going to be eligible to play D1 anywhere else, specifically UK?
Not necessarily … school’s admission departments do have discretion as to whether to accept certain classes that the student athlete has taken at other schools.
Keep in mind that, when he transferred into UofL, he’d completed 3.5 years, so his requirement was 60% toward his degree (about 73 credit hours) instead of the 80% (97 credit hours) it is now.
He might not have needed all of his classes to make that 60% threshold, but from what’s been reported, he’s short of the (80%) requirement now. When UofL accepted his transfer, it might not have told him that one of his classes didn’t transfer, because it didn’t matter at that time.
But you would think that this issue would come up with an academic counselor at UofL at the end of this semester. The counselor would review his academic progress and inform him that, because one of his prior classes didn’t transfer, he needed to take one or two courses during the summer to be eligible to play in the fall.
