He played Cohen...

but he isn’t the only great coach out there. Just better not miss on number 2.

Per the CL beat writer, he said, per sources, there 5 legit candidates as of last week. So, it clearly was never as much of a done deal as some posters thought.

Like I said, it’s never a done deal until the deal is done. Hope Cohen can get his #2 guy.

I'm not going to lie, I was starting to have a few doubts about it being worth the money and what that pitching coach has been able to do and their recruiting profile that isn't that impressive the last 5 years for what I think a top 5 coach should be doing. It would have been a great hire, but doubts were beginning to creep in. He is still a top 5 coach, but there are other great hires out there. My feelings aren't hurt.

McDonnel was always my top choice but there are other guys that wouldn’t be a disappointment. Texas tech’s coach, Virginia’s coach or east Carolina would all be good hires. East Carolina wouldn’t be as sexy as what Cohen was advertising earlier though.

Yep. Really makes all those arguments about when we should announce the hire seem pretty silly now.

Guys, we pulled the plug from what it sounds like. There are some Cann type rumors going around and I’m geussing the IB didn’t want a repeat. Let’s let it go and go get McDonnell

I’m starting to see a trend with Cohen’s job searches. One guy emerges, everything says he is the guy, then the real guy gets named the coach. This is how it went with football with Pruitt and now baseball.

If Cohen doesn’t get who he’s said he is a lot of people are going to look dumb including him. Kendall Rogers has been certain it’s going to be Schlossnagle, McDonnell, or Corbin

I think it was convenient since his season ended a week ago for these rumors. But, if you believe rose bowl, we’re gonna hire our guy within a day or two of his season ending. Didn’t happen with Schloss, and it may have never been in the works.

McDonnell’s season ended today... FWIW. That’s something to watch.

Are you kidding?? Recruiting profile the last 5 years? That's what's so impressive about Schloss...he didn't have great recruiting classes and still went to 4 straight CWS. It's called player development. He'd have kicked *** with the players he and Gautreau could have pulled in to Starkville.

More than likely the new coach doesn't keep Gautreau and without Gautreau we lose some of the players we could have kept hiring Schloss.

And yes my feeling are hurt. Biggest disappointment I've felt from an MSU coaching search standpoint. I doubt I see a State CWS NC in my life time. 17!!!

That's kinda my point regarding development vs recruiting. I'm not saying my doubts were founded. I tend to be pretty noncommittal.

Same thing I heard from a TCU alum. I was like ****, not again.
