Renardo Sidney's Facebook page has message from him saying he's returning to Mississippi St. for jr. season. I've texted him for a comment.

The only comparison I can make is Glenn "big baby" Davis with a vertical. His stats against Vandy projected out over 36 minutes would be about 40 points and 15 boards. If he gets in prime physical condition, he will be a Top 5 pick in 2012. As I said the other day, Sidney along with Moultrie and Bost will be plenty enough to get us in the NCAAT.

I made the joke of a pool because I assume I am in the minority thinking he will show up next season a different player. He may absolutely prove me to be a naive moron but I think he is going to prove a lot of our fans wrong.

For all the hell he gets, he's got the potential to be a 1st team All-American next season. I think we'll see a different Renardo Sidney next year than we saw this year.

If a guy like Renardo ran suicides and lifted weights for 6 months solid he would have no peer under the basket. </p>

but Sidney will never be a top five pick or a 1st team all-american. Hope I'm wrong but picks that high go to freshman studs and/or international athletic/size freaks. 1st team all-americans go to top 10 schools or Duke/UNC/Big East players. He'd have to average 30ppg and 20rpg just to overcome his negative past and stereotypes AND State would have to have a record of 25-5 or better so that it was so obvious that he's the reason for this amazing MSU team that the media would have no choice but to brand him all-american.

He just went for 15 and 7 per game after almost 2 years out of basketball and being 30 lbs overweight, completely out of shape, and basically just standing around on the court. If he gets his *** in shape for next season (and I realize that's a big if), he could easily be a lottery pick. It's not a huge stretch at all to think he could go for 25 and 10 next season, and that's 1st team All-American type numbers.

He also fouled out of 4 games and had 4 fouls in 5 games. He only played 16 games!!
In over half the games he played, he either fouled out or was in severe foul trouble.
That limits his already limited ability to play competent defense.

Yeah he averaged 15 and 7. What about the other end of the floor? You know, the one he sometimes didn't even make it to?
He has to drop that weight you mentioned AND become a more complete player. Those stats don't show his true worth right now, they inflate it.

You don't think being severely out of shape contributed greatly to that? When you can't move around well, you have a tendency to just reach your arms out and hack rather than getting in good position and actually playing legitimate defense.<div>
</div><div>And regardless of what he's able to do on the defensive end, if he lost 40 pounds, he would be among the elite few in college basketball.</div>

lose 40lbs. He has to lose that weight AND replace it with muscle. Country strong muscle!!! He doesn't have it in him to become some crazy fitness muscle freak. So sorry but their ain't no way in hell Sidney will be a top 5 pick or a 1st team All-American. Again he's already too old to warrant a top 5 pick. Those go to one and done players. He certainly can still be a first round pick but not a top 5 pick.

You would have to go all the way back to the 2010 draft just to find a top 5 pick that wasn't a one and done player. Also in the 2009 draft the first three guys taken weren't one and done.

I think he'll have a long career in the NBA. Haven't you ever heard of a late bloomer? We are fortunate that he is coming back. I think he plays hard and will only be better next season. I won't blah blah blah the oft-repeated arguments, but I for one appreciate the work he's put in for us. I'm excited about next year and I'll still be wearing maroon.

tough lessons. While I am nervous about his return I am also hopeful that he will get in shape and be the player he is capable of being. If he does this and with what we have coming in for next year I think we will be pretty decent. If we aren't any goodthen I too will have to get off the fence on Stansbury.

what does that have to do with Mississippi State? If he's a 1st team All-American next year but doesn't go until late in the 1st round because of his age, how does that affect us?

State would have to be a dominate team for Sidney to get looks and he'd have to have outrageous numbers to overcome his negative past. Not happening. Saying Sidney will be a top 5 pick and a 1st team All-American is the same thing as UM saying they will be 11-1 next season in football. Get 17ing real.

IF he has a complete season maximizing his talent, it's not out of the question. His past will help him with the media. They love a good turnaround story. And with that lineup, we'll be contending for the SEC. And don't forget about Lawrence Roberts. A big time talent from little ol' State will get recognition when the production warrants such.
