So, how about a guessing game? Who do you guys think the new OC will be?

This suggests that Stoops had his pick prior to giving Dawson the boot.

Glad to see he had a plan.

Justin tweeted this an hour ago.

New: Stoops may have already decided on new OC. Announcement maybe as soon as next week. That & a couple more items. https://t.co/on5ijINuYl

I know that, but that doesn't mention Coley in the tweet is what I'm saying lol.
Coley would make the most sense though. He knows he's going to be out at Miami with Richt being hired down there, so he would definitely be available to talk for a bit now. Stoops knowing who his guy is this early on means he was talking to somebody already, and with them having history, I guess it just makes sense.

Coley would be an absolute disaster. If this is really who Stoops is bringing in, he might as well just go ahead and start packing his bags. This next season will be his last.

Good grief! Coley couldn't put up decent numbers against freaking ACC defenses with Miami type talent. How is he going to put points on the board against SEC defenses utilizing Kentucky talent? I can name 50 people off the top of my head that would be better OC material at UK than Coley. If this is really who Stoops picks, it will be confirmation that the dude is way in over his head.

Mac Jones started following Walt Bell.

From Arkansas State? Well they do play a bowl game in 2 days, so that's not a huge stretch.

To Coley's credit, this is not the old U. Miami's talent hasn't translated tremendously on the field, probably because of Al Golden.

^Coley isn't my first choice but look at his roster at Miami. His roster was almost as young as ours was. Given that fact he didn't do too bad. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have Gran but it's not Coley is the worst ever.

I don't know much about Walt Belt. Anyone care to give some info? Is he any good?

Coley is a buddy and they usually take care of each other in college sports. I've seen some coaches really stink it up at places and they always seem to land on their feet somewhere.

I would like Walt Bell. Legit OC, 10th ranked scoring offense in the country at 41 PPG, hung 20 on Mizzou's defense (which isn't bad for Arky State). Lot of really high scoring games. He's also a QB coach, which is notable.

How much clock can he kill to keep the score down?

Walt Bell...

This would have the potential of being a very good hire. He has quite a potent offense. And he is also a QB coach. Also, his style of play should make for a minimal learning curve during the transition. IMHO, this would be a much better candidate than James Coley. But ultimately, success or failure is going to depend on whether Stoops lets him run his offense as he sees fit, or whether he micromanages everything he does. If Stoops does the latter, it won't make a bit of difference who he brings in.

I thought Miami went 8-4 with all that young talent.

I hate to say it, but this is a name that I keep coming back to.

Stoops hired Dawson because he was well regarded as a QB coach. I think that's the blueprint he wants to stick with. Sanders would run the type of offense I think Stoops really wants too.

To be fair, he could do a hell of a lot worse.

Somebody tweeted to watch New Orleans Bowl, so I looked up both OC's. ASU has the dreaded co offensive coordinators which worries me a little. Plus he's got time at UNC. Not impressed at all. Could be wrong

Well he was coached by (and also briefly coached with) Darin Hinshaw... another name that has been tossed around as a package deal with Eddie Gran.

Walt Bell would be a good hire, IMHO. He has called plays @ Arkansas State and also during 1 game for North Carolina (a bowl win). Arkansas State is top 25ish rushing & top 40ish passing.

Would be great.

There's another scary name coming up. Mark Mangino. Great coach, not particularly sure you can say the same about him as a person though.

God, please no Randy Sanders.

Anyone know if Walt Bell called plays at Arkansas St or not? His head coach Blake Anderson was OC at North Carolina and southern miss for Fedora.

I can't imagine that Barnhart would be "all in" when it comes to hiring Mangino.

While I don't think Matt Jones knows a ton about football, the guy knows his stuff, and he made a good point. At this point, Stoops' buyout is ridiculous, he'll be here for at least 2 more years, regardless. They're going to go after whoever gives Stoops the best chance to succeed, regardless of a few things that may have been in consideration in years prior.
