We only had good offenses when we had a lot of NFL talent on that side of the ball. As soon as those guys graduated, we went back to the cellar. His offenses were terrible after the special 07 class graduated.

Actually, Jokers 2010 team (31.2 ppg) only averaged 0.4 PPG less than Hal Mumme's second highest output (31.6 ppg) @ UK. Also, Joker's 2007 offense actually topped Mumme's highest output with Tim Couch & Craig Yeast. Really, Joker's Offenses overall were as productive as Mumme's overall & the PPG stats bare it out. Both had some ups when the talent was high & downs when the talent was lacking.

However, you are correct that the only good offenses that UK has had (with maybe the only exception being 2014 Brown @ 29.2 PPG) during the past 25 years or longer, did feature a lot of talent. But, when UK does not have top level O talent, EVERY O scheme/OC has struggled... including Mumme, Pease, Joker, Brown, etc.

I have zero doubt that improved recruiting and a mature roster are the biggest keys to Kentucky having a good offense. Again, the stats bare it out.

Top 5 PPG since 1997 & the only UK teams to average over 30 PPG during that period...

2007- Woodson, Burton, Johnson, Little, Tamme, Lyons, Locke, etc.

1998- Couch #1 pick, Yeast, Whalen, McCord, Coleman, Homer, White, etc.

2002- Lorenzen, Boone (10 TD's receiving), Pinner (1,678 yards rushing & receiving), Abney (multiple returns for TD's), etc.

1997- Couch, Yeast, Sanford, Coleman, Homer, White, etc.

2010- Hartline, Cobb, Mathews, Locke, King, etc.

Look at the talent & you can almost see that the rankings seem to follow suit.

Jimmy's & Joe's more than X's & O's

Sounds like it's going to be Coley. Here's where his teams ranked in total offense during his six seasons as an OC:

At Florida State:

2010- #34
2011- #64
2012- #9

At Miami U:

2013- #46
2014- #42
2015- #69

Where did you read it's Coley? It's not likely to be him.

KapitalCat I had the same question. Does he have some inside info that is better than what JR is writing articles about? I doubt it, but that would be a heckuva scoop if true.

Just going on things I've read here and there. Where have you read that it's not likely to be him?

Some interesting stats for the "Air Raid or Bust" Fans who are ready to run Stoops out of town...

2014 Brown - 29.2 PPG
1999 Mumme - 27.3 PPG

2015 Dawson - 24.7 PPG
2000 Mumme - 23.1 PPG

That ignores that scoring has increased significantly overall the last few years. Before the 2007 season the national scoring average had only twice climbed above 26.9 points a game since the NCAA began tracking the statistic in 1937. But, over the past nine years FBS scoring average has moved above 28 points a game 6 times and never dropped below 27. The average is nearly 30 this year.

If it is coley, I can't shake the feeling that the next two years would be joker woefully awful.

2015 Dawson - 24.7 PPG
2000 Mumme - 23.1 PPG
Now, let's look at those PPG vs SEC opponents:

1997 - 26.5 PPG
1998 - 33.3 PPG
1999 - 24.8 PPG
2000 - 19 PPG

2013 - 14.8 PPG
2014 - 22.8 PPG
2015 - 17.5 PPG

So, it looks like the offense under Stoops is pure s#!+ and got worse in year 3 no matter how some homers attempt to spin it.

Now, the "Air Raid" as we saw it in 1998 no longer exists nor was it the offense that Brown and Dawson have experience running. However, the modern day version is still expected to be produce an aggressive and fast offense that uses the short passing game as a way to compensate for a lack of the ability to control the line of scrimmage. We've seen NOTHING that even attempts to do this.

So, if anyone wants to defend Stoops by stating that the "Air Raid" is a silly offense, perhaps you should direct that to him because he's the genius who hired 2 guys who only have experience running that very thing.

Gran will be the first OC Stoops knows and has worked with in the past. Plus the offense will be something Stoops is more comfortable with. I love the hire (if it's Gran). I think Stopps will give him the keys to the offense. No meddling. Too much is at stake.

It will likely be Coley or Gran. Seems the momentum for it being Gran has not wavered. I would think that Coley would be unabashed about talking up UK right now if he was the choice. And, I would think Gran would be saying he has no interest.

Sounds like it's going to be Kiffin. I haven't read that it's not likely to be him.

Well, that's enough proof for me, Kiffin it is.

But at this point I will be very disappointed if it isn't Gran. Looking forward to watching the game tonight, but a little conflicted, will be pulling for his offense AND for M Smith to have a good game.

I would enjoy a 51-49 game-----either way.
