This has been most people's worst case scenario. It's the SEC, they have QB issues and it's much closer to his home than Starkville. The next week will be interesting. How can you not love recruiting?

They're the one other school that can offer him what we can, which is that he will be the #1 guy from the day he steps on campus until the day he leaves. Not to mention we'd have to play against him twice.

I'm expecting big things from the Swan. I want this to make Robert Elliot Day seem like watching paint dry.

Other then Miss State did Newton visit any other schools on game day? If not that plays into our favor.

said on his talk show that he thinks Russell will have the position and he doesn't see anyone beating him out. Said the guy is a flat out winner!

D@A is on this one.

I'll find out the recruiting schedule for this weekend and totally go disrupt it. I will do this while wearing a gray MSU sweatshirt, black jeans, and a braided belt.

Newton WILL be a Bulldog.

Any chance we can talk you into walking into whatever restaurant they have dinner at on Friday night ringing a cowbell?

Ok D@A, but if he says some crazy MSU fan really annoyed the piss out of me on my visit with Auburn so I've decided not to go MSU, well we should make you public enemy No. 1, but happy hunting and good luck.

I can't find it for some reason. Lets just hope he really trusts what Dan is telling him over these other schools.

If what the family says is true, which I don't know if I believe any more, they were saying that they didn't know if they were going to take this trip at all which led me to believe he doesn't care much about the results of this weekend or Auburn. It's so troubling because he is actually taking the visit to Auburn. It's true that they offer almost everything we do. All we have on them is the Mullen relationship and the game day visit. They actually have more of a winning tradition and more immediate tools for success seeing as they went bowling this year and one of the few teams to give Bama a scare.

I will be in Auburn this weekedn too for a wedding.

I will keep a crisp One Hundred dollar bill in my pocket. If I see him at the bar he will recieve a nice firm hand shake.

We would be preparing for a bowl game instead of sitting home. Not to mention going into next season with an experienced QB.

this is why you never, ever, ever put too much stock into recruiting bullshat.

Thankfully, we have a coach now that understands you can't put all your eggs in one basket. I'm sure he has some contigency plans in place, so this really doesn't worry me. This Newton guy sounds like a total jackass anyway. Wouldn't shock me if he winds up being the next Bwent Shafuh. I can't even count how many JUCO All-American studs have been complete busts.

the coaches had no idea how quickly he would develop. I am glad we redshirted him. If Newton doesn't come, then we have 4 years of Russell. With a year of practice/system experience already under his belt.

I will take this losing season in return for the promise offered by the next 4 years, especially after seeing the points we could put on the board with Lee at the helm. Even though it was a losing season, it was one of the most exciting in a LONG time.

but does he have one now? It seems like that could make a difference in what he's actually thinking. But, of course, God knows where common sense fits into all this.

Because he wants to see all his options and make a good decision, especially since he made a bad one the last time around? That's what smart people do in that situation.

I don't like being outdone by Auburn (or the other big boys) any more than the next guy. But you have to do what you've got to do to get him to sign here. It's not over, don't know why so many are conceding him. I for one don't envy anything about Auburn and think we can offer everything they can at this point in time.

JUCO All-American busts. I guess we shouldn't recruit those guys then, because Eddie O messed up Shayfuh and Cowpower has seen some busts from JUCO. From a fan who's only recent success was built on JUCOs.

in the Alabama game but decided it was not worth burning his shirt at that point in time.

I'm betting Tyler starts in the first game in 2010 whether we sign Brunetti or Newton. I also bet we don't sign Newton because he's not sure he can beat Tyler out and start and he wants to go somewhere that is a lock for him to start.

...except the one where he decided to, you know, get himself kicked out of school.

I want him, but like Costanza, it's not the end of the world if he doesn't come. I don't want to see him at Auburn, though. However, our qb situation will be better next year than at any time last year. Relf with a year under his belt and Russell with a redshirt year and Spring practice beats the hell out of T. Lee in year one of the offense.

Lee dinged the shoulder again (like Jackson State) in the fourth quarter and they weren't sure he could go. TR was told to warm up. This is after they had repped Stegall all week at practice and just had Russell running the Scout team. That tells you what they think of his talent.

i'll sign on this day...no wait..i'll push it back again...crap. this is not to mention the calling of a press conference to do it. the guy has already signed once, been kicked out of the school that he signed with, and is now finally going to be back at a 4 year university. he should be happy that coaches are willing to take a chance on him after his past mistakes.

i want a confident QB who can back it up just as much as the next State fan but this guy needs to eat some humble pie at least once a week.
