Not sure why they would need to schedule a press conference to say he is staying since he already released a letter to the media stating those intentions. BSU fans will continue to deny it but either way there was major smoke on Wed/Thurs/Fri this week and I have to believe that Petersen was interested, it was negotiated and he either tentatively accepted and later declined, or he needed the weekend to be silent for the reasons stated above. He went MUCH further in talks than he ever did at UCLA, Washington, etc.. There is pretty good evidence he met with the MSU AD face-to-face in an interview setting.. I just don't have the ability to share it."

Here is how the day should develop:</p>

Late morning: The final regular season Top 25 polls will be released. The Broncos were No. 9 in all three polls last week - only Alabama in front of them lost Saturday.</p>

Afternoon/early evening: The Humanitarian Bowl is expected to make its formal announcement, possibly a meeting between Maryland and Nevada. The game is Dec. 30 in Bronco Stadium.</p>

6 p.m.: The Bowl Selection Show starts on Fox (Channel 12). The final BCS standings will be released, and 10 teams will be placed in the five major bowl games. That will open the door for other bowls to make their official announcements.</p>

6:30 p.m.: The Poinsettia Bowl is expected to officially invite teams from the WAC and Mountain West conferences.</p>

<font color="#CC0033">7 p.m.: Boise State has scheduled a press conference on campus involving head coach Chris Petersen, players and athletic director Gene Bleymaier.</font></p>

What time is the selection show today? It could be a presser to discuss the bowl game as mentioned.

hands? Boise state may say shove your bowl we are not playing unless its a BCS bowl? I don't really believe this but after hearing all the crap this week I don't know what to believe anymore. I would love for it to be that he is leaving and coming here. Today should be fun none the less.

These rumors on here are getting blasted.

At the USP/Meridian game, I talked to a guy who's dad is very high up in the Bulldog Club. He said that the offer was for 12 million over 4 years for Petersen. He said that they were working through contract negotiations and that he still felt like it would be Petersen. That was around 9pm on Friday night. Take it for what it's worth. If it doesn't happen, then it doesn't happen, but I would believe this guy because of his father's position.

btw, his dad basically has to sign off on the contract from what I have heard.

About the Petersen to MSU rumors still swirling, why did he add the following line to his statement:

"I am not taking the head coaching position at Mississippi State"

I have no problem with coach speak, like "I have not had contact with MSU", "Im happy where I am", or "I have not been offered the job from MSU". All of this is coach speak, and I could see him easily taking the job at MSU after making comments like this, but the earlier comment would seem to be a problem.

He could have quelled the rumors without adding the quote above.

Of course he could still be the MSU coach, but it seems like Petersen is not Saban, or Petrino and he will probably stand by his word.

Do they announce a contract extension or a bowl selection press conference. I don't see anything to this.

perhaps he wants something better for any assistants he brings along.
Perhaps he wants to hand-pick some assistants from other schools.

I don't know its just speculation, but that's all we got and its a message board that wants rumors and guessing.

Petersen and Byrne strike me as 2 guys who want every 'I' dotted and every 'T' crossed before they go public w/any contract. Plus you have lawyers, spokesmen, university presidents, etc.

GB is really earning his paycheck this week.

Wonder if he'll need a new Blackberry for Christmas?

plus it would put this thing to bed for us any school trying to get him. Below is a quote from Sparty on Locke's blog. I posted late last night so not sure if it was seen. Thought it was interesting as to his current thoughts on Petersen.

that told me of crooms resignation says Peterson is the guy. Says Gill was interviewed as window dressing in Atlanta yesterday. He says we will know by Monday. BTW, He told of croom BEFORE it broke last saturday.

From everything I understand, he is a stand up guy.

Also this was a press release where he had the option to say exactly what he wanted. He did not have to add that comment, but he did which is different than responding to a reporter at a news conference.

I guess my question is why would he had the extra sentence that he is not going to be the MSU head coach. There is no reason to add that comment when you are issuing a statement.

Scenario: He knows who the birds are in the Bryan building who leaked the Croom announcement. He "plants" Peterson info, and they run with it. He has the run of the country for two days, gets his man, then smashes rumor. Damn I love it when a good plan comes together.

was leaving BSU for MSU at this press conference I doubt that he would have his players in attendance. But who knows. You would think that Byrne would be in attendance not the BSU AD.
