"MSU will look into potential NCAA rules violations presented by Jackie Sherrill's presence at football practice today, a spokesman confirms." Is he joking? Surely the coaching staff wouldn't have let Sherrill be there if there was any potential for something like this.

check Veazey's blog.

That stupid sonofabitch needs to go the hell away. He already almost singlehandedly destroyed our football program once. Why the hell is he anywhere near our team? Jeebus Q. Christ.

Thats a load of BS... I was there and Sherrill didn't do any coaching... He did ride around with Rocky Felker in Croom's old golf cart for a long while. If he was coaching, he was doing it Sylvester Croom style.

cart...actually, before the sun set on that day. Not only should the Kang not be allowed anywhere near the field of play, neither should Felker.

It doesn't surprise me that you would massage the balls of a guy that had a stellar .500 record, got us on probation twice and ran our football program into the goddamn ground, and detest a coach that has won division, league, and tournament titles and won at a clip unmatched by anyone outside of Babe McCarthy.

had a .500 record assclown? And it took the NCAA to bring him down to the .500 level. Jackie made football relevant at State and Mullen said as much when he took the job. He said one of the reasons he took the job was because Jackie was able to win here.

Williams and Stansbury have won because we finally started putting money in basketball. Before 1985 we had a damn rubber floor. Dont think throwing money into basketball hasnt made a difference.

the last three years of Jackie and Croom's time ran together so much, that now when I think of Jackie, I just remember the good times, and there were plenty of them. But the irony remains.

Why the hell shouldn't Mullen invite Jackie back? He's only the fan-favorite and most successful coach the university has had. After the mistake that was Sly Croom, I (and the great majority of the fanbase) are excited to be reminded of the good days from a decade ago.

Mullen is trying to get the team and the fans excited again. What better way than to bring home the coach who actually was successful while he was here.

I left your ex-wife's house just a little while ago, just now getting home.

I don't give two ***** about the coaches before Sherrill. All I know is that that sack of crap destroyed what he built, and he is complete poison. He's the reason we haven't been worth a **** since 2000. Because of him and his stubbornness, we wound up with the fatass lazy sack of **** Walrus which extended our misery another 5 years. I cannot believe there are normally sane individuals on here that are waxing nostalgic about that piece of crap. How soon you people forget 2002 and 2003. I never will. Keep the nostalgic **** for someone else. If he hadn't been so goddamn stubborn, we could've built on the success we had from 97-00. Instead, he destroyed it, and we wound up with the Slytanic.

The NCAA caused this along with LT...Crooms is not Jackie's fault- its LT's. Jackie made some bad decisions on juco's and others for 2 years and we had holes in recruiting, but Crooms was a self-imposed infraction.

Just quit posting idiot and be glad Jackie comes back and graces us with his prescence

you beat me too it... LT is to blame for Croom. I like Croom as person. I have nothing but respect for the man. A head football coach he is not. But a great individual you will never meet another man like him.

J.S. on the other hand is nothing but maroon and white thru and thru. All i know is Croom is still bleeding that God awful Crimson color with mixture of bear's black and white hoodstooth hats

Is just a flat *** lie! JWS had NO hand in the hiring of Croom. 34 is correct in saying "be glad Jackie comes back and graces us with his prescen".
JWS is the only coach that I can think of that supported Msu after his career in Starkville. Yeah he stayed around at least one year too long but between OM and the Ncaa he had no chance! Why in the hell do you think he has a law suit?
JWS was the best thing we have had in football since WWll, records don't lie.

He was stubborn, hypocritical, blamed everyone but himself for his mistakes and shortcomings, and kept his friend employed to the detriment of his employer.

That's the way it should be.

JWS's last 3 years were a salem witch trial. In a salem witch trial if you're being accused of being a witch, they drown you to see if you float when dead and this determines whether or not you're a witch. He was screwed by the NCAA and that Ole Miss ***** who was banging the NCAA investigator.

Sherrill was far & away the best coach MSU has ever had. The trip to Atlanta was incredible. And it wasn't even his best team. There must have been 3-4 other years Atlanta was within our reach in the last week or two of the seasons.

I never said Jackie hired Croom. I'm saying that because of the destruction he caused of our football program, we wound up having to hire that lazy jackass that we wasted the last 5 years on. Try to keep up.

The whole "Ole Miss and the NCAA" myth is the most Genespage-esque ********, too. The reason they went after him is because he was cheating, dumbass.

You should welcome him back. Its saying something when 3/4 of a fanbase still hates a man that hasn't been employed there in years. It means he was great.

Jackie did cheat. The NCAA was on his case.

But when he left, he had no hand in hiring Croom. There were plenty of black assistants out there that were more qualified than Croom if that was what was "mandated" by the NCAA, as some of your fans here have suggested. There were tons of other qualified candidates out there otherwise.

LT hired Croom, plain and simple. It's LT's fault, not Jackie's.

Personally, I hated Jackie when he was your HC. I like him now.

Your detest for him is ridiculous.

I don't think that 3/4 fo MSU's fan base hates JWS ---- I would think it is just the opposite.

not ours. And Cowstanza, if you think Mississippi wasn't heavily involved in the NCAA investigation, you're full of ****. They hated the man for the way he owned them his first 10 years at MState and did whatever it took to run him out of Starkville to resume their "rightful" place in the state.

if you don't count his last three years.

While he certainly had a winning record against us, I wouldn't call that "owning" us.

While I'd agree 6-4 isn't "owning" you, for a lot of your Mississippi brethren, losing to us more than 2, 3 times in a decade is ridiculous. It pisses them off, much less when MState actually wins a decade, had a 2 game EB winning streak, and had a SECCG appearance. Throw in the fact that JWS was great at taking jabs at Mississippi and getting into their heads, and you had a recipe for what happened. They wanted us to be mud under their boots aGAIN, wanted JWS gone, and helped make it so.
