There are now sites reporting that the shooting took place inside the Evans Dorm, and the victim was shot multiple times. The victim was transported to a hospital, where the victim then died. This is horrible and sad news, and prayers should go out to the victims family. I've stayed in both Hurst and Ruby, and I know there were cameras in the hallways of those dorms. Idk about Evans, I've never been in there, but hopefully there were cameras that caught images of the criminals that will be able to be used toidentify and bring these people to justice.

I had heard tweets that reports came in from an RA that they first had a report a student fell out of a window and they thought he was intoxicated..Then a second call came in that he had been shot..Terrible tragedy...Sad and scary man..My doors are locked I'm not on campus I'm across town but still..Crazy as in my 6 years here (I graduate in May from grad school), this has never happened..Other than the gang fight a few years ago at the BP involving like 50 people, Mike Brown shooting a gun on campus in 2007, and a crazy time driving through near BP and Little Ceasars area on Hwy 12 during blue and white week (parking lot at midnight was jammed w/ cars and cops were everywhere), nothing has really crazy went down on campus since I've been here..

</div><div>PS. I hope they get these guys. People who are willing to kill someone in a dorm where they know people will hear it are dangerous. I amthoroughlyangry and want to know what their reason was for taking someones life. </div>

The student was found outside the dorm room so the story about them falling out the window sounds legit..Starkville Daily News said a student in the lobby of the dorm didn't hear shots and someone ran downstairs and said someone had been shot..I wonder how in the world could you not hear gunshots? Did they have like a dang silencer or something to muffle the sound? Thats so terrible and very scary they couldn't hear it..

The building makes a square and the lobby is on the second floor on one side of the square, and is separated from the rest of the building by a courtyard and walkways. <div>Also, the rooms are in 4 bedroom suites with a bathroom at the back of a hallway, so if it happened in a back room, that would be even more reason someone in the lobby didn't hear gunshots. </div><div>
</div><div>Also, to answer your question about surveillance cameras, I believe there are cameras at the entrances of Evans. I spent a few years working in housing when I was at State and every building has cameras at least at the entrance points, and some of the newer/renovated buildings have them throughout the rest of the building. <div>
</div><div>This is absolutely ubelievable... this is a tragedy that I'm sure has affected a lot of people... obviously family and friends, but also the other 200 living in Evans. </div><div>
</div><div>I'm sure most here don't fall under this category, but if you live on campus and wonder why you have to check guests in and out of the building, this is a perfect example why that's in place. I guarantee you this kind of media attention would not have come from any other shooting. I was at State when the shooting at 21 took place, and it didn't get NEAR this kind of attention. A student getting shot on a college campus in a dorm where 200+ people live in a fairly confined space is much different from a spread out apartment complex. A shooting at an apartment complex isn't any less horrific or terrible than this, but because of the fact it happened in a dorm where so many people live just adds a completely different dimension to it. </div> </div>

The fact that there are three suspects makes it sound like it could have been a drug deal or something gone bad. Idk just speculating. It says the victim was found outsidehis dorm, but doesthat mean he was outside of the building or just outside of his room in the hall or something? I'm not real clear on what outside of the dorm means yet, but if these people shot the victim and then threw him out a window, that's just brutal and horrific. I really hope they catch these people very soon.

I walked over to Evans tonight about 1am. Campus is normal, with students walking back to their rooms after a night out. Evans seems quiet. Students can enter and exit, but part of the dorm is taped off. One of the students said the shooting was in room 121, the 1st floor. The only thing seen now is a cop car blocking the side entrance to the back parking lot. Seems pointless, since the lot is open to Coliseum Blvd. Police tape is on the lower east north entrance. No other place. One MSU cop is standing at the tape.

Thanks for that detailed post drt..I have never been in Evans but have only been parked outside it quite a few times for basketball games and parked behind Garner and in front of Evans to go into Garner for financial aid things..Agreed Longhorns..Have no idea if they were found outside as in inside the dorm but outside the room or outside the dorm altogether..Thats just a tweet I heard from someone reporting chatter from a scanner I think...We will see for sure at 10am..How is this going to affect campus? You think they can't play the baseball game? Cause they might need to shut down campus for a few days or so to do investigations plus they need no foot traffic in that region at all...W/ a baseball game or classes going on, thats too much people around a crime scene..

Although this is a terrible tragedy, it's not going to stop the game later today. They are not shutting down campus. This was confined to a small area inside Evans.

Used to be one of the more out-of-the-way halls. Had friends there 30 years ago. Used to go past it going from suttle to the hump or DNF.

Reading the comments following the CL article this morning, a guy who currently lives in Evans said there were actually 3 victims, the one who was killed and two others. The other two jumped out the window when the shooting started. The 3 thugs then fled. He also said it was a drug deal gone bad.

I lived in Evans for two years. Was on the top floor the first year, and bottom the second. It was the coolest place to live on campus. I regretted moving to Arbour Acres my senior year. Really bad this happened there.
