the service that you get in any southern town and especially the deep south. ****** service, rude employees, I've come to expect it. We travel a lot, and we always comment when we come back home that it's a noticeable difference between how employees treat customers in the South compared to say the Midwest or even the Northeast. Hell, even New York city service workers are more respectful.

If that's what you see, all I can say is I have lived in Mississippi all my life and the folks that wait on me are very gracious and courteous. I'm sure there are exceptions, but you could say that about any section of our country.

I'm mainly referencing the fast-food type service industry...Not so much your rural "steak and fish" type place... Mississippi is one of the worst, trust me.

I was a loyal customer for 20 years. No more. The food isn't nearly as good as it once was and I certainly got a sense of "favoritism" based on color on 3 or 4 occasions. After I saw a pattern of this, I called it quits.

Luckily this is America and I can stop giving them my money. Do the same if you feel the same way.

This is absolutely the case with fast food in MS and the Deep South.

The owner has been that way as long as I can remember. I don’t know if he was less rude to black people. I think he is just crotchety in general.

I used to eat at Petty's when he had a place out at Clayton Village that was '90-'91. Was pretty good Q. Graduated and the came back for a 2nd degree a few years later and he'd moved over to Hwy 12. Still had good Q then but over the years it has dropped off. I've not been back in several years because of this and the service has been bad as well. If I'm going to eat BBQ in Starkville it's going to be at Two Brother's or Moe's.....both are top-notch.

And if you find yourself in Selma, AL and wanting some BBQ, don't go to Hancock's. I made that mistake yesterday. Service was good but the BBQ wasn't.

I don’t think that you should jump to the conclusion that if a black man doesn’t provide you the BBQ service you’d like, he hates white people. Come on man.

Been there several times and the service generally sucks, but there’s no reason to call folks racist bc of it. It just means they aren’t good at being pleasant people.

But if you need a $100 bill, ol billy keeps a roll of them in his sock. Did some work for them back in the 90's and that's how he paid his bills... kind of old school. He's not a friendly guy, but he's consistent- never seen him be nice to anyone.

Amen to that!!! Grew up in the south lived in MS, AL, & TN, have been MO for 10 plus years. Demographics are the biggest difference. When the kids were small and we would travel back home, they could tell you what part of the country we were in by the ethnicity of the fast food workers present. Mine you the kiddos were only 4 & 6 at the time.

Petty's only slightly less awful than The Little Dooey. The Little Dooey does have the fact that it isn't racist going for it though. I'll never spend another dime at Petty's. Apparently barbecue is best served with a side of racism.

I'm African American.

When I went there, I honestly thought they were not nice to blacks.

I figured that they were more concerned about their Caucasian base, maybe because they makeup a large percentage of the customer base (a lot there at the time ).

After reading this thread, I'm convinced that racism isn't the issue. Sounds like a general lack of social etiquette.

I know y'all are unhappy, but I feel better to know that it's not just us.
