Personally, I think the A&M game can be summed up in two words:

Bad gameplan. We came out doing two things in the first half that gave us no chance: (1) trying to establish the run and running the ball much more than we usually do, and (2) playing with three down linemen and our linebackers four to five yards behind the line of scrimmage.

The strength of our offense is Russell and our passing game. Against the better teams we play, if we cannot pass the ball, we won't win. If we don't try to pass the ball, we never have a chance. If we are going to run that much, we might as well play Prescott.

When we've run the ball well, its been set up by the pass. And our defensive formations effectively took our linebackers out of the game. The way we stop them is to take away the read to hand off the ball up the middle and occasionally thrown them for a loss, putting them in longer situations. They still would have had a lot of yards and points, but we could have performed better. This is essentially what we did in the second half.

We do not have the talent level to play this kind of conservative gameplan against this quality of opponent. Maybe our coaches realize this now. I like our coaching staff, but I think they misplayed this one.

maybe so but what I saw was better talent

What I saw was guys catching 20 yard passes while our safeties stayed 15 yards deeper than the deepest receivers.

What I saw was linebackers trying to cover receivers.

What I saw was our 3-4 look lined up against a jumbo set.

What I saw as nobody spying Johnny Football.

Chris Wilson ought to be on the hot seat for that showing. His game plan was every bit as incompetent as Croom's West Coast Offense.

without manziel

they are the same aTm that was middle of the pack in the big 12 over the last 10 years. 7-5 type team. With him they are a 9-3, 10-2 team. They are houston with better athletes, better defense, and a dual threat qb that no one can seem to get their hands on.

Still need to beat arky and Om = successful season again. The question is how we decide to respond from here.

Manziel obviously

makes a huge difference, but they are the only SEC team with 3 of Mel Kiper's top 25 (Manziel isn't one of those 3). A&M is very talented across the board and just might give Bama a run for their money this weekend.

Manziel will be neutralized a little the next few years when this OL leaves.....

TAM has a very veteran and solid OL, people forget this. of course, i understand that TAM can rebuild the OL too.

Agree

they have two first round picks in the upcoming draft on the OL. I'm sure they'll have competent SEC players to fill in for those guys, but they won't be nearly as good up front next year. On the flip side, Manziel will know the offense much better so they might not have to be as good up front.

Game plan

Sticking to a game plan is great if your game plan has an option for adjustments. I've worked for one of the greatest coaches in Tx. High school history. He would run the same exact play until they stopped it, then adjust to what the defense changed to stop it. I support Tyler however not trying Dak and a different look was ridiculous.
